Those are absolutely great. Seeing those blades toether is a perfect opportunity for me to look beyond both form and substance, since both are perfect from what I can see, and delve into the mindset of preference, and I gotta say, that Crookes is DA BOMB! I hesitate to ask (since I'm unemployed) but will you be selling these?

    Joe,

I'm not sure what type of camera you have, but try this. Get a cloudy or translucent piece of scotch tape (not the clear stuff since it won't do anything) and put it over your camera flash. It's not a professional set up, but it will help to take the sharp edges off of the flash, lighting the photo but avoiding the hard shadows and edges.

BTW, if my regrinds turn out anything like that, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

What's sad is that I'm not even using a flash. Just taken inside with incandescent bulbs, and no light filter. On the bright side, I spent all of last night Skyping with several people, most notably Randy and Damon (Damon's a relatively new guy, but really, really knows photography) who gave me tons of hints and methods to improve my photography, which thus far is totally a weak point for me. Once I pick up a tripod, I think I can implement their suggestions quickly, and you'll finally see some better pictures, since it's not going to be much trouble to build a light box. I have Gimp photo editing software, which I'm told I could use to improve the white balance on my photos, for removing that yellowish cast which comes from using incandescent lighting, but I honestly don't know how to use it, other than to scale my pix so they'll go up on the site.

X, the Crookes is already spoken for. The W&B may be. The Schmachtenberg I'm not selling now, for sentimental reasons (they may pass later ), but a good friend gave me the wood I used for the handles, and that blade was one of my first truly great shavers.

Matt, I think you'll be pretty pleased with your regrinds, as well. I'll get you some preliminary pix soon, as I've already done the roughing part of it. I'm just waiting on some more 600 grit alox to clean it up. It should be here tomorrow. We just changed to 12-hour rotating shifts at work, so my time to work on stuff this week is going to be extremely limited, but the week after, I should have tons, if nothing slips, breaks, or comes untied.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone, despite the poor photography. I'm working on it. I also forgot to thank Vlad, who helped me with it a while back. The only decent pix I've managed to accomplish were with his direction. The reason they've "regressed" a bit is because I don't usually get home until after dark, and I've been having to take them inside, instead of outside, with Mother Nature's light.

    Joe,

I could tell from the pic that you weren't using a flash, since the photos are a little dark. Using a flash that's dulled by the tape would help to light the pics, but avoid the harsh reflections left by an untamed flash.

Regarding the blades, I'm in no rush, so dont worry about it too much.

I just switched from 5 8hour shifts to the rotating 12's myself, working monday, tuesday, friday, saturday, sunday one week, but only working wednesday thursday of the next! One week of hell and one week of vacation, which makes scheduling a little hard, to say the least.

I like what you have done and it's great to see you getting better and better at this stuff. Before I forget, you don't need to put any kind of finish on the cocobolo. Just buff it. Then a coat of Rennaissance.

I recently switched shifts, myself, since it is being mentioned. I don't work the weekends or nights anymore and for 52 weeks a year I have Monday through Friday off with pay. The ringers on my alarm clocks have rusted, and my workshop is fuzzy and warm.

I don't use the work "hate" very much, but it's getting close to the tip of my tongue...

52 weeks off with pay, year after year? Closer and closer to the tip of my tongue...
