Thanked: 20Blued steel?
I looked in the forum and could not find if anyone had restored/built a strait razor that had been blued. I have some walnut from some gun stocks that I would like to use up and a few blades that I have been working on and was wondering how it would look. I hate to waste a shiny blade however it could be a look I might like. anyone have a thought or idea?

Thanked: 20would love to meet everyone but I have a wedding in Spokane next weekend. I looked a little deeper into it in the forum and I am not sure it would be worth it. As for bluing I have tons of different types that i can use. I am just not sure it would render the results I want. I was thinking that the steel being similar to gun or knife steel might make it look ok. Maybe I should just by a GOLD DOLLAR(of which I love) and try it with that.

Thanked: 13245Just so long as it is one of the Carbon Steel versions and you polish the steel it should make a good test bed... If you have done guns in the past then you have the knowledge already, you just apply the same principles to the razors and they come out pretty good..
We have a big meet up in Spokane in the Fall also, just keep an eye out for the anouncements

Sorry to hijack the thread, how does the cold blue hold up on the razors. Does it scratch off easily? I have never blued anything before.
Thanks.

Thanked: 993I just used Birchwood cold blue last week on a Sanssouci. I haven't reposted the pics yet. I'll get on up in here tonight. It'll just be a crappy phone pic.
Anyway, it holds up, and doesn't scratch off. Give it a 24 rest period before anything though, at least that's what's recommended on the back of the Birchwood bottle. Your steel has to be nice and clean first. I'm also working on a top secret project that will be blued and posted probably next week.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thanked: 2027Would love to see someone do some real rust bluing using nitric acid,is messy, dangerous, time consuming work, but that old time winchester royal blue is to die for.

I have two 'Black Diamond' razors that I intend to 'black' (read - very dark blue) when I restore them so I'll be watching this thread carefully.
