Work in Progress
Work in progress here. These are the first scales I am making. I choose purple heart for the material. The only part that has me a little worried right now are getting the pins straight. I purchased some brass rods and I think I have some. washers that will work fine.

Thanked: 993Good for you.
What are your plans for the toe and heel design? Also, a finishing tip: purpleheart changes colour with heat - a heat gun on low. But if your going to try it, pull the gun away before you reach your desired colour. The wood will continue to cook a bit, just as a steak continues to go up a couple degrees after you pull it off the BBQ.
Keep us posted.
Would this be better in the workshop area?

I am not sure about the heel and toe design yet. I think I am going to keep it similar to the original scales. So I guess I will just trace it and sand it till I get it right. Thanks for the tip on heat/color change. I might try that. I have enough material to make several so if I screw up I can start again. I wish I could do this in a workshop but do not have one. I am very limited on space right now. So I am stuck out in the VA humidity for the time being.

Btw, this is the razor I am making the scales for. I think I should have gone for a darker wood but...who knows?

Thanked: 9I think the purple heart looks very unique in woodworking projects.
I bleve that razor scales should be no different. Don't fret on getting the pins straight. just keep the two halves together find the center of there location use a drill press if you got one and also a backing block so you don't blow out the bottom scale when you come through. go slow take your time and they'll come out perfect. Good Luck!!!
