I'm not sure, but IRC someone mentioned in a video at least 20 minutes.
I always load the wheels after use so they are ready next time I'll use them.

Don't overload the wheel all in one go and let the wheel continue spinning for a while and it should be OK in a matter of minutes depending on the ambient temperature/humidity - I am usually good to go in 2 to 5 minutes.

Either my buffer has to much rpm going on or it's way to hot because I would have used all the 80 grit

What rpm does your buffer read and what size wheels are you using?

Is it variable speed? Your spinning twice as fast as you should.

With a 6" wheel your sfpm is a little high, but you should still be able to load compound.
I use 4" wheels with my buffer at 3500, and I'm pretty sure Glen and most others with fast turning buffers do the same.
