Thanked: 0Dubl duck and barbicide stained my pearly scales
I recently purchased a dubl duck wonderedge and placed it in undiluted barbicide. Reason being my lady brought barbicide home from her salon and I assumed it was ready to go. Made an a** out of my self when I fully submerged my razor turning scales pearly blue. They are the original scales and I'm unpinning because when I received it the blade was, and still is, not centered. So while I have the scales off I'd like to get it all done. What is the best way to get them back to original color? I'm thinking a 1 to 1 mix of hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alchohol. I've searched the forum for this and didn't find much on celluloid scale repair so any advice would be much appreciated. Should I lift the inlays? Also my first post hello to everyone! If anyone would like to add what type of metal is used as original pins on wonderedge I'd be much obliged. I'd like to keep it OG.

Celluloid is not really happy with most chemicals so I would advise against the peroxide & alcohol.
I wonder how deep the blue colour struck ? Can you un pin & rub the inside with say 1000 grit wetndri to see.
Do they look so bad in blue ? Lifting the inlays will destroy the scales as it usually involves hot water or acetone.
Pins are usually brass or nickel silver . You can usually tell at a glance which you have. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

what a bummer. and yes i agree, i would try to avoid chemicals. Celluloid is decomposed fairly easily with a wide range of chemicals, so unless you get direct confirmation that something wont damage it further, i would look into other means.

Blue Duck? I'd be very, careful with solvents around those scales.

I could swear I remember reading somewhere on here that you should never put your scales in barbicide (wish I could remember which post I saw that...)
I started using a natural cleaner called method. You can find it at target, it's made with natural oils and extracts I just wipe it on, let it sit about 10 minutes, then wipe off excess with water and dry. Oh, yeah, get the multi-surface...it's safe for chrome, glass, wood, tile, marble, plastic and a few other materials so it's ok for polished steelMastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 0I have to say that the blue actually looks nice. It will be a while before I have time to unpin. I have seen method cleaners recently I think I'll try that first and then attempt the sanding if that doesn't work. I'm not too worried about it. I plan on keeping the wonderedge it's actually my favorite shaver. I can live with it blue but will attempt to remove the coloring. If it doesn't work I'm still happy with my blue duck. I would love to post a pic but only have iPad and iPhone devices to post with and this forum is not very apple friendly. I can send it in email if anyone is curious what they look like just send me a message. You are welcome to post the pic if anyone chooses to do so. When I find time to unpin ill update you guys on my progress. Thanks for the quick replies.

I'll be honest, I really want to see how these scales look.
