Thanked: 284First scale making venture
Got an H. H. Hill "Blue Steel" razor off eBay that actually turned out to be an excellent shaver that had hardly no wear. The bone scales were a little less than perfect, and when I took the pins out to clean the razor, I made sure they weren't usable again...oh well.
That gave me the excuse to try to make some scales. Used Brazilian Rosewood, and put some wax/orange oil for finish. I could have done the wedge and pins better, but overall pleased with how they came out. Thanks for all the info here on SRP!

Nothing wrong with that work Bubba!!
Especially for your first attempt, they look very nice!!! Hell, they look much nicer than the first, second set of scales that I attempted!!
Keep at at it! You are doing OK, and you will learn and get better as you go!

How tough is that rosewood? I hear it is pretty dense. Scales look good. I am just like you and trying to make scales.

Is that a wedge, or a spacer ?

Thanked: 284Thanks for the accolades - appreciate it!
With what limited experience I have in woods it really seemed nice to work with. Didn't splinter as I worked the edges like other stuff has done to me. I got it at Rockler. They've got several types of exotics in 1/8" thick sticks.
As far as the wedge- yeah I think it's more of a spacer cause there wasn't much of a slope, if at all...I love living in the past...

Thanked: 0Looks great! I'm working on my first scale right now but I picked a lighter wood and wish I would have picked something darker now...

Thanked: 284Thanks. I'm sure they'll be plenty more to make in the future! And depending on what you treat it with, it usually ends up darker that what you start with.
