I cannot understand how these white stones work.
I think the honing was made by the base stone.

You are correct. The honing is done by the base stone. Rubbing the nagura (A.K.A. slurry stone) on the base stone distributes more abrasive in the vehicle (water) for faster cutting of the metal. Controlling the thickness of the slurry by creating a thicker or thinner slurry adjusts the level of cutting power. A method learned with experience by trial and error.

Thanked: 2591the grit from the nagura is sandwiched between the bevel and the base stone. When you hone the grit will abrade the metal , while in the mean time it will also break down to finer size by the pressure. The base stone needs to be harder than the nagura so that it does not release it's own slurry in the honing mix.

Thanks for the explanation Stefan and for the video presentation. I didn't realize that nagura use differed from using slurry stones of the same composition as the base stone or a diamond plate to generate abrasive from the base stone. Now I begin to understand the attraction to using the honorable nagura on venerable Nakayama ....or whatever.

Question:
I don't think you mentioned it in the video, but would you use the Koma nagura as part of the progression after Mejiro and before tomonagura OR would you use it in place of Mejiro?

Hi,
Would you use chrom ox, or diamond spray, or similar after the passes on water (as it seems like you did after the tomonagura, but I could be mistaken), or is it shave ready as it is?
Thanks,

Great job
, now I have another reason (and no more excuses) to try out the three nagura I got from Maksim with my Oozuko.
Do you think Atoma plates could fit in the progression either after the Tomonagura or perhaps even instead of it??
