[QUOTE=stimpy52;1401559]Frank, you nailed it.
I just looked close at that poor blade and one crusty hinge pin and thought the worst.
But hey, it opens and closes nicely. ;)

Really? Where's the rest of the blade?
I have that one. With the whole blade that is. I can't stand the pieces pinned at the top of the scales. They are sharp as needles if they separate slightly from the scale. Had more than one prick of the finger from it.

Wade Butcher Sheffield 7 8 " Straight Razor Clear Horn Handle C1850 60 | eBay
The handles are worn and made from horn, but the blade is still in great shape for it age. This is a cool piece of the past for any collector.
the blade has a dirty crack at the heal - if that classes as "in great shape" the rest of mine are Mint LOL
Would you call that blade shape a sneer?

"Good" doesn't mean what he thinks it means. If you drop your ice cream at the beach, I suppose you could say "it's still good", but let's see you eat it.
I took a gamble on this one and snagged it up as it was at good price for a 6/8 Puma. It arrived, and the scales were in nice shape. I hand sanded it up to 12000, and was able to get out a fair amount of the pitting. Unfortunately, I lost the goldwash in the process. Still, it honed up nicely and has given two nice shaves. I'll admit that this razor is an ugly duckling, but I disagree that it is wall of shame material. :o
Here's some pics of how it cleaned up

Not a razor, but a pure load of BS about an absolute FAKE P.O.S.
CSN Marked Folding Knife Identified to Crewmember of CSS Morgan | eBay
The knife pictured is a Japanese piece of junk made in the 1950's or 1960's. Somebody decided it needed to be valuable so they stamped CSN on the blade, made up a fake name tag, and made up a story about it.

One of the more blatant fakes I've seen in a while. There are LOTS of fake/counterfeit knives on ebay. Some guys have no idea they're selling a fake, while others have a good business of making fakes and selling them to the unwary.
well it looks like it sold for a grand.
Curious though, how do we know its a fake.
Saw this on Ebay today. Can't believe the price he wants for this razor.

If you're asking about that thing I posted, it's pretty easy to tell it's not what it's advertised to be if you handled as many old knives as I have. Even if you'd never seen one of those old Japanese rope knives, the jigging on the bone is totally different than it is on knives of the era that the seller of that junk claims it to be. That's the quickest test on it. Fit and finish is another.
This particular knife was pointed out to me by a friend of mine that owns more than three thousand old pocket knives and has been collecting for 40 years. He knows his stuff. He's my "go to" guy when I see a knife I'm leery of.
Like I said earlier, there are LOTS of phony knives on ebay and several unscrupulous sellers who specialize in creating fake/fantasy/counterfeit knives with obscure tang stamps and some with well known tang stamps like Case. Case knives are probably the most counterfeited knives on ebay. If you're gonna play the old knife game, you'd better know your knives.
these scales are just plain odd

Hmm, "interesting" scales too...
This thread is a reminder to us newbies why it's important to purchase from reputable vendors.
I admit that these ebay posts are really bugging me, mostly the fact that some of these sellers would think it's okay to sell this stuff.
Buyer beware.
News Flash! Now it's reduced 10%. What a bargain!

That's exactly why I like threads like this. I was dooped when I first started because I didn't know better. Luckily I did spend much but still it's very disheartening to finally get that shiny new razor you bought just to lather up and make a pass only to realize it wasn't your face that got shaved but your bank account.
Sheisty sales men really irk me the wrong way.
