That is very interesting to me as well. I once bought an old straight that had no tail & the scales were beautiful, early 1800's or so but as I looked at it closer, I could see that the tail had been broken off & smoothed out. I could tell that by the way it had a slight curvature to it at the tail. I told the seller about it & he gladly took it back & refunded my money. Damn shame it had been broken since the scales were straight & possibly pressed because of the very nice design to them.
Yeah, I couldn't find the one they were referring to, the Cottrell so I researched it & found they had sold it.
I was going to show a restored Greaves I saw end the other night because it said shave ready but had a nick in the blade & it had a bid on it with minutes left before ending for $175. I sent the seller a message & I nicely told him it looked like it had a nick on the blade & after it ended, I got a reply from the him thanking me & that he had to look at it under magnification & did in fact see the nick so he was going to touch it up before shipping it out. I also told him he might tell the buyer he had to touch it up just in case it was seen later & he agreed. He was very appreciative about me letting him know about the nick & those are sellers I like, ones who are grateful for mistakes in their listings. Aside from that, there are those you just can't make happy & I have had some rude replies like one in particular when I mentioned the blade looked cracked & it had a bidder on it. His reply was to F O, wrong answer & I reported him for it. No one is perfect & I have also made a mistake before but I was very appreciative when it was brought to my attention & I'm never afraid to admit when I'm wrong.

This is what I was told by Ardennes awhile back regarding a huge form factor stone, and I don't think this price is with bbw backing.. :350 x 87mm is a very large stone! we are not able to produce them anymore, you can only find them second hand. When (hopefully) in the future our mine is back up and running we will be able to make them. A selected quality 250 x 60mm is sold for 338 euro, a standard 260 euro. If we can produce a 350 x 90mm, we would double the price.
Kind regards,
Anne-Katrien Celis
His price is off base, but at least on paper it is worth quite a bit if Ardennes were offering it, anyway.

Thanked: 169It's somewhere between 2-2.5x over where it should be, prob closer to 2x at least retail factoring in meat and clean lines. Selling massive cotis is hard, a real case of diminishing returns. Can't blow up the pic on my phone, what is the backing?

Thanked: 169For what he is asking, if you want a high end experience, you are better off throwing that at jnats from a seller with some pedigree.

These pickers make me laugh..............
Seller: hoarder-hut
They also have this one...........some people just don't have any sense:
It just amazes me what these people think they have! They want $30 each for them plus shipping.
They watch these shows & of course they might be trying to look for an alternative way to make money but what really gets me is they research these makers on eBay or the internet & they think they really have something by the prices they ask. They'll eventually realize they are buying junk & when they do, they might have quite a bit invested in their junk! Some people are flat out lazy & just don't want to work. As for myself, I would rather work if I can. I have watched these shows on the tube a time or two, laugh & then change the channel & I watch something much better worth watching. These pickers & hoarders just make me laugh.................what a joke they are!

It's very sad, I've come across antiques dealers who don't know what they are on about either... But they refuse to budge on their ridiculous pricing because they obviously paid a fortunes for their junk and are now passing it off as antiques!
Some one paid $40 for this monstrosity "needs to be ground again", needs to be binned!

I saw one in an antique shop in similar condition, 2 massive chips in the blade with faux tortoise shell scales... $38, I just laughed. I think the guy knew it was never going to sell.
