Thanked: 85I just ran across a listing on eBay for an Antique Vintage Very Old Rare Straight Razor. The razor is listed in "good condition". Must be a special grind, for trimming nose hairs or something. Below is one of the photos. I cropped and brightened it, so everyone could "enjoy" the razor.

Gentlemen, I have found the finest razor ever. In doing so I found out that all my stones I've collected are obsolete-- Now could we discuss the finer merits of honing to shave ready with a wire wheel on a grinder?
100% Shave Ready- (I had to wait a few hours until the auction I was in for ended- lost by $5, thanks for that whichever one of you that was )
Wade and butcher barbers use 100% SHAVE READY! Nary ONE INCH WIDE!

Would just like to point out, bids, and 100% positive Feedback
"Please note, all of our SHAVE READY razors have been painstakingly HONED BY HAND! We hand hone all our razors on the FINEST hones and sharpening stones available. Depending on the razor we will use a variety of stones some of which include the legendary Belgian Coticule Hone. The Coticule has been known and used since Roman times. It is a rare stone that was only found in the Ardennes Forest in Belgium. We also use ESCHER hones, which are considered by many to be the FINEST RAZOR HONES EVER. These are hones of the Thuringian type, found in Germany and are VERY rare and give the definitive POLISHED, SHAVING EDGE!"
" Some too, are well meaning, but DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH experience to really get you what you need. The one thing we hear from our customers all the time is "WOW, THIS IS A REALLY SHARP RAZOR, NOT LIKE THE OTHER ONES I'VE BOUGHT BEFORE!" Outside of the well meaning amateur razor sellers there are some out there that just DO NOT KNOW what they are doing! I think you can see the scenario of an 18 year old, who lives in his parents basement and has dropped out of high school and is going to sell razors to YOU! Enough Said? Not wanting to belabor this point, but … we recently saw a "Shave Ready" razor for sale by some else on eBay. Looking carefully at the images you could see THE BLADE EDGE WAS CHIPPED! How can a razor with a chipped edge be SHAVE READY! This is a true story and I don't know if the razor was sold or what happened. DON'T TAKE CHANCES WITH UNKNOWN SELLERS ON EBAY! BUY HERE FROM YOUR FRIEND ZOLOTOY VOLK AND GET PIECE OF MIND A GREAT RAZOR AND A SUPER DEAL!!!"
"PLEASE NOTE: A very observant eBay member noted that the stamping on the blade is NOT affected by the scratch marks … SO, the scratch marks ARE FROM THE FACTORY! We have been asked about these and now can say WITH CONFIDENCE THAT THIS IS THE WAY THE THE RAZOR CAME FROM THE FACTORY! If you look at the blade stamping with a magnifying glass you can CLEARLY see that the stamp/logo is ON TOP OF THE SCRATCHES! Wow, quality control must have been different 150 years ago! Anyway, this razor is a TIP-TOP SUPER EXCELLENT SHAVER! This is a neat artifact too for the W&B history buff. Thanks."Japanese-Whetstones and physics it's all just a sea of particles. Q: Are those scratches going diagonally on this razor... That's what it appears to be it just throws me of because the stamp is completely unphased by it
A: Wow, excellent observation! YES, the stamping on the blade IS ON TOP of the scratches. So, this means this was DONE AT THE FACTORY! Wow! Thanks!Japanese-Whetstones and physics it's all just a sea of particles. "If I could remember the names of all these particles, I'd be a botanist." - Enrico Fermi
