I try to use terms such as "about" when describing width, and if in doubt happily provide a picture.

Yep. I've dealt with this problem once on eBay myself. Never round a blade width to so much as the nearest 1/64 on eBay.

These days I'll state the measurement as a decimal percentage of 1.00 (example, 0.873 inch) in the narrative or photograph the width at the end of the blade with a digital micrometer in exact fractions. If it's 57/64's, so be it.
!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

I found some great steel at the NJ Steel Baron website. He recommended 52100 steel for my razor. I found a place that will heat treat it and a good friend of mine said he knows someone who can shape it for me. After that, I will do the rest, like final shaping, polishing, honing and putting the scales on it. I refuse to pay freakin' $400.+ for a razor, just because it is 1" or wider. These never used to be expensive, until some idiots decided that bigger is better and was cause for bragging rights or some stupid crap like that! I hope to find one in an antique mall/shop for a reasonable price. Then and only then, will I buy one in good conscience.

I do like the fact that Ulrik of Koraat doesn't change the price of his razors as they get bigger. Same blanks for the 5/8 and 6/8, and the 7/8 and 8/8. It seems to be the most logical way to me if working from preformed blanks. He could easily charge more for the bigger blanks which would be logical, but he doesn't. Guessing like many things nowadays, the labour and manufacturing is more what costs rather than the material.

I guess I am out of the loop around here; who is Ulrik of Koraat? Sounds like the name of a leader of a hoard from ancient history! Lol.

Koraat Knives, custom razors. Is one man called Ulrik. He doesn't forge himself but has his blanks custom made by Herkenrath(?) who make all(?) the modern European blanks.

If you go for a reasonably plain blade from him, they cost about the same as any of the big blades, but he does more wedgie blades and all have a mild smile. You can pay a lot more for a much flashier razor of course

Thanks. I'll look him up and see what he is asking for his razors.
