Thanked: 237ebay question
So I sold some razors on ebay recently, and just received a notice that one is being returned. The razor in question is a vintage tally ho, measured it at 7/8. The buyer says that "the razor is a full 1/32 short of being 7/8". This seems a little absurd to me, I have purchased razors that have been much more off than 1/32 of an inch before, and not complained about it. I could see if it was a brand new razor, but come on its a vintage blade probably close to a hundred years old!

I've read a few posts here about that problem - seems the solution I've seen lots of sellers do is put the the blade length and width against a measuring device (calipers, measuring tape), say the pics are part of the description, and make no mention of blade width or such....

The best thing to do, if you intend to sell on ebay in the future, is take it back graciously. Ebay/paypal are stacked against the seller, so you'll probably have to accept it one way or the other. Graciously accepting returns is healthier for your feedback score.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 228Probably a form of buyers remorse and the buyer is trying to find some form of a valid excuse to return it! He seems to have found one. I would do as Phrank suggests in post #2.

Thanked: 634I also sell on eBay. You have to give approximate measurements. They return razors for the smallest reason. Just had one returned because when fully closed the blade hit the wedge. Took two passes of a file to correct. Probably buyers remorse. The best you can do is accept the return and issue a refund. Otherwise you get poor feedbacks which is worse.

Thanked: 237Yea I'm not goin to try and fight it, I don't think it's really an option. I told him I'll be sure to list it properly next time, at 27/32. Lol

Better to round down the measurements or state it as being just under a measurement instead of rounding up and having it returned and maybe getting negative feedback. It is actually kind of hard to get an exact measurement unless using calipers and who wants to use those on a shave ready razor. The laying it on a measuring device and letting the buyer decide is a good way to avoid any arguments.

...another thing to avoid saying is, "Shave Ready"....one person's shave ready is another's, "too dull", "too sharp", or "not right"....a couple of seller's have been using, "Razor is sharp"...and leaving it at that.

To be fair here taking a file to a razor to correct the above isn't something a buyer of a razor should have to do, if it hasn't been pointed out in the description.
In the OP's case sounds like buyers remorse, hopefully he'll be able to sell it again. Perhaps on the BST here?

or describing it as "Honed."
Selling razors on eBay is a bit like selling a house vs. a car. Sell a 25 yr old house and everything is expected to be "perfect" unless disclosed. Sell a 10 yr old car and no one complains about the rock chips or expects them to be listed, after all its used!Last edited by Splashone; 12-29-2014 at 11:02 PM.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.
