Thread: Classifieds flooded?!!

I can't agree with this, at least from my observations. I check the Classified section at least twice a day, sometimes 10 times a day, really.
The items are moving & they move fast. Certain categories move faster than others, like good shavers for beginners in the $30.00 to $80.00 range. They usually don't last 24 hours. Razors over $80.00 may wait for a buyer looking for that particular model. Customs might take a little longer, sometimes they don't even last an hour or two. I don't buy razors off of eBay, mainly because there is such a selection flying through here on a weekly basis, with sellers that can be verified & a SRP Staff that keeps the garbage off the site.

Thanked: 247I agree with that cause I do sell mine on ebay to get pennies on the dollar for time spent on restoring these pieces of history.

Thanked: 9Woo horsey...wasn't tryin to get anybodys panties in wod. This is a hobby for me as well and enjoyable one at that. I never once said anything about getting rich or doing this strictly for profit. I enjoy putting smiles on other peoples faces. I was merely stating that it seems the classifieds was flooded with some great razors at well below what there worth and no one is buying. I had thought about posting in the classifieds but just so you don't think because I have more than fifty posts I can wait till after a 100. No problem. I do however find it a little disheartening that asking a simple question gets answers that basically shun people for the attempt.

Thanked: 1587No one's really looking for a pants-down, how's-your-father, put-your-knickers-on-mother-we're-going-to-town bargain in the Classifieds, though there are some to be had without doubt. Like anything, sales ebb and flow and drift along with the economic tides of our membership. Honestly, decent razor at a decent price do move in there. Maybe you've just been observing it at a poor time?
In any event, it is a member service as opposed to a shopfront - it's mainly a way for our members to sell personal items without the hassle and fees associated with other places. If people are selling for other reasons you do what everyone else does - pay your money down and list on an auction site.

I recently listed a GB Anchor (George Brittain) 8/8 horn for $500. It languished the 15 day limit and I got a PM with an offer. It was a fair offer and I accepted it. Say that to say, it went the full 15 days but it did sell. I've listed a half dozen razors, a few brushes and maybe a hone or two in there over the past few years. All sold with the exception of one of the two brushes. Some quickly, some slowly, I like to get my price for things.
Maybe when I first started out I would have jumped on a lot of razors I wouldn't look at twice now. After you've accumulated 100 + , IME we start becoming more discriminating. Know what we like and are more selective about it.
Now it is a question of what will it add to what I already have ? If the razor, hone or brush isn't something very special to me, I pass. I recently bought a W&B 9/8 and fought for it on the bay. Why ? Because I have two FBU variations and this was a For Barbers Only. The Only made it very desirable to add to my accumulation ..... it ain't a collection BTW .....

Thanked: 1Every time I look, there appears to be a decent circulation.
Plus I think it's a great thing for the community to use. If your not out for profit and quick money then what does a razor sitting on your shelf for 2 more weeks matter?Last edited by SpacemanSpiff; 04-05-2013 at 09:20 PM. Reason: Added sentence

Thanked: 4249I watch the classifieds as well, my observation is if the razor is priced fairly it will move fast, the others just sit there......
