    Shave #217.1 - Dry Lather

    QCS Vostok Shave Soap
    Semogue 2012
    Edwin Jagger DE89L + Feather (2)
    Thayers Witchhazel
    Clubman Classic

3.5 Passes and I'm about DFS++. The lather was kind of dry and not so lubricating, so my results were a bit lower than usual.

Thanks for continuing to post. I haven't read all your entries but it's clear perseverance has been a key. I also appreciate the glimpses of daily life that appear in your posts as I've not been to the part of the planet you call home. Cheers!

Shave #217.2 - About to Begin

Thank you, dubhglas. Any encouragement is warmly received.

I'm leaving tomorrow to begin biking around Taiwan (tracing the outline of Taiwan), so I wanted to grab an evening shave. I haven't really figured out what my shaving situation will be during this journey, but the panniers are really not very roomie, so I might be stuck grabbing disposables along the way.

This was a really nice relaxing shave - guess I enjoyed it so much because I realize that it could be my last enjoyable shave for a couple weeks. We'll see. I'm a very solid BBS, and ready to face the ride ahead...I think.

Good luck! If you can't shave, at least post some photos of the scenery!

    Shave #217.3

Been on the road for most of a week. Me and my buddy are back in Taipei, we're going to rest for a few days, get a bit of apart time (we've been on top of each other for a week), and then head out again in a different direction.

So, I had a chance to grab a shave. My skin is under duress, the pedaling in [near] equatorial sun is hard on us alabaster types. Despite that the shave was pretty comfortable.

In the DFS+ area, but it is nice to feel fresh again. That was a shower and shave I desperately needed.

Thank you Cincinnatus, I'll post a couple more from the cycling trip later.

Shave #217.4 - Tired, But Home

I just got home from traveling around Taiwan with my buddy, so I just wanted enough of a shave to allow me to sleep comfortably.

    QCS Vostok Shave Soap

    Captain's Choice Bay Rum

2 passes (N-S & S-N) and I'm SAS. Good enough to allow me to achieve my purpose of going to sleep.

Shave #217.5 - Back to Normal

My wife is back from Europe and my cycling bud is back in Canada. Things are returning to normal. But, I still have a couple pics to share. Truthfully, it was so hot that we had to get on the road very early, and ride pretty hard to reach our destination before the sun forced us off the road in mid to late morning, so I don't have as many pictures of the landscape as I would like.

One section of road along the east coast, from Su'au to Hualien, is too dangerous to ride by bike. Most riders avail themselves of the train service. There were so many bikes it was hard to walk in the train.

At the Su'ao cold springs, the perfect way to end a long hot ride. The cutesy stuff is an Asian thing.

    Shave #218 - A Bit Meh

So, I cracked out the straight razor gear. It's been a while, so I was excited to have an old school shave, and the shave was...

QCS Vostok Shave Soap + C&E West Indian Lime Shave Cream
    TOBS Badger Brush
    Geo Wostenholm & Son IXL 5/8" (9)
    Thayers Witchhazel
    PAA CaD

...a bit meh. As I was shaving, I thought the shave was going pretty well. When I soaped up my neck for the cleanup (the 0.5 pass in my normal 2.5 pass shave) there was a bit of burning. When I put on the witch hazel it lit me up. That never happens. I'm not sure why. Maybe I'm a bit out of practice and used pressure (I don't think so), maybe the soaps weren't slick enough (true, I'm just trying to burn these soaps as they're not great for straight razor shaving), or possibly my skin was unused to the feel of a straight razor. Anyway, it wasn't a major issue, my skin feels fine now and I'm around DFS- from my normal 2.5 passer.

Shave #218.1 - Damn, Son! That's Some Close Shavin'

The wife threw me out of my shave nook/her make up area mid shave prep. So, I ended up standing in the bathroom with a wet towel held to my face waiting for my turn, or more accurately, for my turn to be returned to me. Normally I hold a wet towel to my face for a minute, load my brush, put any soap suds that are just going to waste on my face, rub them in and then apply the wet towel again for another minute. This time the second application of the wet towel ended up lasting 5-6 minutes...
