Shave #208 - Not Quite There

QCS Vostok Shave Soap + C&E West Indian Lime Shave Cream
    TOBS Badger Brush
    DOVO Palisander 6/8" (10/2)
    Hulk's Smash
    Gentlemen's Tonic AS Balm

I did my normal 2.5-passer, and it didn't feel quite right as I was doing it. The results were okay, just slightly off the mark. I'd call it a comfortable DFS-. By mixing the soap and cream together I've found that I've taken two products that lack slickness and unleashed their inner slickness. For DE shaving, this über lather is plenty slick. But, I found it slightly below my straight razor slickness preferences. (I'm a whore for slickness).

    Shave #208.1 - Ouch!!!

No, I didn't cut myself. (Shame on you for wishing it). No, I threw my back out, in mid-romantic gesture. Old age sucks!!! Anyway, I did a real number on myself, and I wasn't able to stand up for a couple days without shaking like a leaf. I wouldn't have shaved today, but the whiskers were driving me crazy, so I pulled out the safety razor. I dare not use a straight razor.

This is one of those times that I appreciate being in Taiwan. They have something here called twain-na. I don't think it exists in the West, but it is some sort of funky combination of chiropractic, deep (very deep) tissue massage, and Qi gong. Add a little acupuncture and it'll put your back right. If I were in Canada, I'd still be laying on the kitchen floor, but I'm getting around pretty okay now.

Shave #208.2 - Burning the Blade

I'm heading to Hong Kong tomorrow for a few days. I'm going to pack the DE, so I needed to use up the blade in it.

    Proraso Green Pre/Post Shave
Synergy Lime Shave Soap + C&E West Indian Lime Shave Cream
    Semogue 2012
    Edwin Jagger DE89L + Astra Stainless (2)
    PAA CaD

DFS ++. But, I gave myself a series of little nicks going ATG on the neck. The blade felt a bit dull.

    Shave #208.3 - Travel Shaving

Well, I'm back in Hong Kong. I used to spend a lot of time here, but now it is pretty rare. I used to come here for a Western living fix (familiar food, English books and movies, pubs, etc.), before returning to whatever out of the way place I might have been working in at the time. Nowadays, the Internet and WTO have rendered Hong Kong somewhat redundant for me personally, but I still enjoy the vibrancy.

Well, I'm back home from my little jaunt to Hong Kong. I had a nice time. I usually enjoy Hong Kong.

    Ok, on with the shave:

    RazoRock XXX Shave Soap
    TOBS Badger Brush
Don Jae Chopper + Derby Blade (2)
    Captain's Choice Bay Rum
C&E West Indian Lime AS Balm

2 passes, no extra half pass on the neck, and I'm pretty DFS. I have a couple of very smal nicks, this shavette is terribly unforgiving. However, nothing so bad as to require alum or styptic.

Would you mind linking to that video? I'd like to take a look at it, too.

    Shave #210.1 - Well,...Ummm,...

    ...no...

I'd like to help jwir3, but the honest truth is I don't know who made the video I referred to there. I only dimly remember the video. Sorry about that.
