Thread: Buying my first straight, need advice.

Thought I'd update this thread instead of starting a new one.

I have now ordered my stuff from SRD. I actually bought two razors. The Dovo Tortoise 6/8, and the Dovo "Prima Klang" Bocote 5/8". The Prima Klang was on sale for $143.99. Thought I might use the tortoise to learn on, and keep the Prima Klang to alternate once I get the hang of it. Actually I just wanted to buy it

I see these are coated with Camellia oil to protect the blades. I will probably only use them in the weekends in the beginning (when I have time in the morning), and use my DE on weekdays. So should I order some oil to protect them, or will it be sufficient just being careful about wiping them off after I'm done?

Problem is, it will cost me $28 in shipping to order only a $7.99 bottle of camellia oil from SRD, so I will have to order somewhere else. I found this on ebay where I only have to pay $11.95 in shipping. Essentially the same stuff, right?

Now this oil is biological, is it not? From the tea plant Camellia Sinensis I would imagine. So is there some expiration date on this oil, or will it last for years? I would imagine it might get rancid over time. If not I might order two bottles, so I wouldn't have to worry about running out. (I have some knives that I might use it on also).
