I'd like to say, Don't worry about the HHT, just shave, but it is a good gauge of how sharp your razor truly is. Barbers hones are ok for keeping a shave ready blade, shave ready, but to bring back an edge to pass the hht may require more work than that....Once your blade is shave ready and passing the hht, (it can be shave ready and not pass the hht) you can do 3-5 lapps on the barber hone to keep it that way...

Right now, you have a few choices, send it off to someone to hone it up for you, or buy stuff like Glen mentioned....How big is your pocket book?

Quickly, cheaply, and easily, you can get some paste, and bring back your edge. (Diamond paste, spray or lapping film will work fine) It'll work for a while, then you'll need to send it off, or buy rocks...

I'd get a set of Nortons, and 12k, ..You'll be good to go...

    Jimmy,

Did you try to count the hairs on that wig? Why you could sell those certified individual strands at what, maybe 2 for a buck. Three hundred strands later and you have your investment covered and the next 50,000, or so, long and silkies are pure gravy - or hangers, as it were. Think of all the ADs that would finance.

And you be the man who certifies it. And you be the man who slides home on all that gravy - er... hangers, as it were.

    you're welcome, any time

Same here. If anyone has this, can they put it up on a torrent or something?

    Default Human Hair Source

For whatever it is worth, one need not buy an expensive human hair wig to get a supply of human hair. Many stores sell hanks of packaged human and synthetic hair that are used for making braided extensions etc. One package of human hair would provide a large supply of sanitized hair for performing the HHT at modest cost.

    Red face I've done it

I bought some "human" hair extensions. And, while it seemed like a good idea, the hairs didn't respond well to my hht like my wife's hair did. I'm not real sure why, but it just goes to show that hht has to be calibrated. I'm thinking about washing the hairs to see if it responds differently, but I think I've been weird enough about that whole thing. I do wonder if it has been treated with something to improve strength so it lasts considering it's real hair (supposedly) that doesn't get the oils that it used to...

It just seems like people go to great lengths to pass one test. I've heard from several honers that they don't do the HHT, and that's all I need to hear. Keep in mind, those Dovo's come from the factory having passed the HHT, but how many people really think a factory-honed blade is shave ready?

Yer not weird Paul, I tried the same with a hair extension thingamabob that the wife had for making herself look more beautimus.. the HHT failed horribly by popping hair easily at 1k and above...
I agree there is something different about those wigs...

Alright, I can't even believe this. Am I the only one that thinks this
whole situation is ridiculous? Somebody obsessed with cutting a
hanging hair with a razor that apparently shaves just fine?
Somebody else actually buying hair extensions and weaves to
test on? People, if it shaves good, what is the difference? Aren't
we possibly losing sight of the reason we have straight razors?
I use mine to shave with, not for a one man HHT competition.
If people don't get a handle on it, this could turn into some sort
of strange, fetish hobby, on the fringes of straight razor shaving.
And along the way turn straight shaving from quite masculine, to
quite creepy. Anyway, it's just my opinion, which doesn't really
matter, but I think all this HHT stuff needs to stop. We have the
razors to shave with, not cut hanging hairs. If it shaves good, why
not let it be? Anyway, that's just me.

Oh, this is nothing. You should see the SEM photos of hone garnets, the workshops of guys who not only make their own razors but make their own tools to make the razors with, and long trigonometric discourses on bevel angles of razors laden with differing layers of UL approved electrical tape
