I use it for reconditioning horn scales. It is amazing what a difference a soak in neatsfoot can do to revitalize old scales, as well as making new ones pop. It's used extensively on saddles and other tack for horses as well as generally treating leather. I know some guys use it (sparingly!) on strops too, but I have not done that myself.

livingontheedge: Apple Saddlery on (I think) Innes sells pure neatsfoot oil too, if that's any closer to you. It's across from the Rona between Blair and Cyrville.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

It's also used on baseball gloves!
Come to think of it, I seem to recall a goalie who used it on his pads as well.

That was the first place I tried, unfortunately all they had at the time was neatsfoot compound and I wanted 100% neatsfoot oil. That was a few years ago mind you. The place on Heron at Bank (Zelikovitz Leathers & Crafts) is a Tandy leather dealer and has an amazing selection, I dare you to try to walk out of there not wanting to make your own strop!

I'm going to have to go shopping! Do you know any place in town that sells 1/8 inch hardwood project wood for making scales? I have no way of ripping wood so need to buy wood already sized.

Lee Valley!! There's a rack over by the cashiers that has a pretty wide selection of woods.

Just leave some of the good stuff, ok? I need to stock up again later on this week.

Ha ha! The Heron and Bank store is the same one I found online yesterday. Apple must have updated their inventory recently as I found 100% neatsfoot there back in the spring.
