Thanked: 14I have had a number of boars and also badgers. In general, the boars are stiffer and exfoliate more thoroughly, but I've found that they don't hold the amount of lather that the better badgers will, so you end up going back to the puck for multiple pass shaves. I still rotate both, if I had to choose for desert island purposes it would be a best badger.
So my humble 2¢ would be get a badger and compare to the boar that you already have.

I have both boar and badger and although they are different I haven't noticed I like on better than the other. For the price point you can get a really good boar brush for the price of a cheap/midland badger. Then again, I would suggest try both so you know personally then decide.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

I have on Omega boar, some unnamed vintage pure badger, a Royal Shave 2 band badger, a Champkom synthetic, and a. Art of Shaving silvertip.
Each one feels noticeably different. Even all the badger ones. From my experience the boar doesnt come close to forming the amount of lather that a badger does.
As far as the feel of them you have already been told boar is the stiffest and itll get softer as you go up the badger ladder. Its going to be a matter of preference on what you like to put on your face. My personal favorite is the Silvertip. But I also love variety so I rotate all my brushes.
When you mix up you razors, soaps, and brushes it makes each shave experience very different and keeps things fun. I like how it feels to have a new type of shave each time. Some feel better than others but you get the good with the bad.

I have a cheap badger, cheap boar, and cheap badger/boar mix. I find myself using the mix almost every time. When i do choose to use one of the others, i always end up using the mixed brush the next time around for a couple shaves. It' all about preference, and experimenting hands on.

I was just on a local website here in Canada that sells shaving products and noticed the newest shaving brushes made with horse hair. Has anyone tried yet the new horse hair shaving brush and how it compares to the traditional boar or badger brushes?
