Yes, no need to spend large amounts on brushes, unless you want to, in order to find one you like. I'm in the same boat having brushes ranging from $10 to $200 and there are favourites in almost all the price points in between.

I had no idea. As I've said, I bought 2 El Cheapo badger brushes from Amazon (one for my wife, one for me). Wife doesn't use hers, apparently she uses her hair conditioner for shave cream. So, even though mine is worn out, I have a spare. (Read: no excuse to buy a new one.)

Recently bought a Razor Rock butterscotch beehive synthetic from Italian Barber around $20. Great big brush, soft with backbone. They have lots of sizes and knots at reasonable prices.

I go along with solitarysoldier my Omega boar is my go to brush. It has what I like, soft but with a backbone and makes up a good lather.

Not really being "a brush guy," I only have a handful I rotate around, none of which cost more than about 50 bucks. By far my favorite is Maggard's SHD 24mm 2-band badger knot that I set into an african blackwood handle turned by a local woodworker friend.

There are some beautiful brushes out there that I would like to own, but if I've got the coin, I prefer to spend it on blades, strops, hones and new soaps. (This could change-my obsessions can be hard to predict).

Yes, I used one of those knots to reknot a handle I had. They are very good knots and reasonably priced all things considered.
