Soak in a 50 percent white vinegar and warm water for 15-20 mins, rinse in warm water and shampoo again to remove the vinegar and any soap that has come loose with the vinegar.

Dry well by tamping on a towel or micro fiber and flagging on the edge of your palm covered with a towel or micro fiber till dry.

Hang in a brush holder, handle up.

This is basically the way I do it.
