Redneck Scuttle
okedokey, saw a really cool Moss Scuttle at the DFW get together last weekend and liked the idea, but looked up the price tag and wasn't a huge fan. So, I headed down to the hardware store and did a sweet substitute.
They fit together perfectly, conduct heat rather well, the inner vessel is roughly textured (feels a tad rougher than a 1200 grit waterstone), and best of all, costs six bucks.
Anyone else try this?

Lowe's, garden section. It's called a "self watering pot." Evidently water from the outside pot will gradually seep into the inner pot. Not fast enough to make your lather soggy, tho, takes a coupla hours.
Can't tell from my bad pix, but it has a cool multicolored glaze on it.

Does water leech from one pot to the other? If so, how does that affect your lather?

Thanked: 1It's a very slow leech, through the normally porous unglazed ceramic.

DOes it conduct and hold heat well so your lather stays warm?
Can you take a couple more pics so we can see it a bit better?
I'm still seeking out the best way to get and keep hot lather. I've tried a number of bowl in bowl configurations and I bought a mug heater pad...
I'm still lookin

yes, it holds heat very well, my lather is nice and hot. The seepage from outer to inner vessel is very slight; I take about 15 minutes to shave and it is not noticeable.
Last 2 are extreme macro closeups to show quality of glaze.

Thanked: 1Just about any place that sells flower pots should have this type.
Ceramic is considerably porous, and glazed ceramic is water proof. this combination of a lot of 'empty space' within the product which is not being filled by water (the outer wall, at least) makes for a good insulator. The nature ofthe vessel does not conduct heat very well, so the water in the lower portion remains warm longer, giving you warm lather for longer.
