I was pretty happy with the size. It's a bit larger than I'm used to, but it wasn't overly large. First time I've ever managed to keep all the lather in the bowl
On thing that I would warn of, if you find this one - Don't touch the outside once it's warm. The inside is ceramic, and brushing up against it with your skin now and again is tolerable. Touching the outside metal part can be a little painful.

Hey MercV12, can you give us the model number as others have requested? No go at my Target, dude. I've seen those around and coincidentally had been looking for one recently before seeing your post. Now when I really want one, they're not around where I can buy one.
Thanks.

***PLEASE NOTE - I AM STILL A BEGINNER, AND DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT I'M DOING YET ***
The pot takes a while to warm up, so I go with high initally, and then drop it to low when I'm ready to start. However, I did find that it kept drying out my lather, so today I tried using it as the base for a double boiler (filling the scuttle with water, and floating a bowl of lather in it). I think this worked out WAY better, although to be fair, I also used the "uberlather" method for the first time as well today.
I will continue to experiment, and report back

OK, I went to Target today, and of course, they didn't have it. They did have a Chefmate 1.5 qt, but that's rather large. That one was 10.99, not the 8.00 dollar which I'm sure is smaller. I'm still using my little potpourri crock pot. I did find some little clear glass bowls with lids that fit inside perfectly. I'll do the double boiler method until I find the Holy Grail of crocks, the elusive mini chefmate....These little bowls are great for mixing creams and storing soaps. I grated some Mitchell's wool fat today, heated it, Great. stored the rest..
P.S. While I was trying to upload this pic and write this post, my girlfriend came in like 10x asking me stuff, "Remember that scene in "The Shining" where Jack Nicholson is typing and he goes off on Shelly Duval, anyway, I still say she's crazy, but I love her anyway....Rich

In the original pic, it looks smaller. Maybe it is 1.5 qt? not liters.

Thanked: 77Not much difference there. 1L = 1.05 QT (US) and I'm pretty sure they're using US when listing in qt.
I just ran across a few of them in Lucky this evening. The 1.5 qt is pretty large. Looks like a good size to float a bowl in though. Craftsman makes a 3 cup rice cooker that's a bit smaller (by 1 cup) -- almost there. Problem is that you fire it off and it steams rice for the appropriate amount of time and then automatically switches to the warm setting...
I think a 2 cup capacity would be about perfect with a knob that would go from just warm to boil and a removable inner bowl so you could rinse it out each use. There probably just isn't much demand for that size...
Maybe we should start looking in the area of childrens' cook toys? Probably find something the right size there. They used to have those ovens and things that were heated with a light bulb. I suspect all the safety regulations have done away with anything like that.
My MrCoffee mug warmer does a good job on the bottom of my ceramic Tabac soap bowl. Problem is that the Tabac bowl is just a little too small and the mug warmer/bowl has about a 20 minute ramp up time. The lather on the end of the brush is almost steaming hot for the last pass on my neck... It needs to be able to heat the sides of the bowl.Last edited by Quick; 01-14-2009 at 02:34 AM.
