There is an element of snobbery from back in the day when you would have had to be gentry to own a badger brush. you still need a wad to buy a near top of the line badger. Yes badgers are not as common as pigs and they have to be trapped etc. Don't forget there has and still is the sales patter, "the sheer luxury" , " excellent water holding capacity" all of this has an element of truth in it.
This thread will go onto be massive......as each type of brush has its followers. But, boars are making a comeback at the moment and for all of the right reasons.

Best of luck! I love my Omega, and I used the CO Bigelow rebranded Proraso for about 8 months.
I loved it.

Thanked: 14So it seems here that a lot of guys really like the boar brushes. Do you guys have a preference for blond vs banded, certain densities, etc? I am trying to do a wet shave set for my brothers and father for Christmas this year, and you guys are making me think twice about getting them badger brushes. I can get an Omega for pretty cheap back in the States, though the price for Silvertip is cheap here in China if I get them online. It seems like a lot of you guys wouldn't give up the boar for badger no matter what the price. So if anyone has thoughts on what boar they would prefer over another boar, could you expel a bit on it. I know it is one of those preference things, but would still like to hear those thoughts. Thanks in advance.

As far as doing their job very well there is not much between Omega and Semogue. However, i would vote Semogue, especially as a gift, because of the handles. Plus i think they have a better range of mid to smaller sizes.

I would vote Semogue for two reasons--they do look classier, and they tend to be smaller than the more readily available Omegas. Bigger brushes can get out of hand quickly.
I have a Semogue 1305 and it is a really lovely brush, good enough to convince me I need more Semogues to complement my Omega twins.
The Omegas are NOT bad brushes, they are really quite good, but there is something appealing about the hand-made feeling and look of the Semogue...

Thanked: 14Thanks guys. Been looking at the Fendrihan and vintagescent sites. Seems like neither have the 1305 right now. Been reading some reviews at some of the other forums and seems like quite a few people like the 1520. Anyone have any problems with customs (extra fees and whatnot) when ordering from either site. Was thinking to get from Fendrihan, just because it is closer (to the States that is).
