i do enjoy face lathering soaps with my vdh deluxe.. but i have to say it's such an ugly brush.. i won't store it on a counter or shelf.. it gets stored out of sight.. i just don't like the way boars hair dries and gets all clumpy and ratted looking.. badger on the other hand looks beautiful and feels wonderful.. one of these days i'll drop the money on a high end silvertip.. till then i'm a pure badger man.. or my wee scot.. which is "best" badger.. i have no idea what that means.. is it the same as finest?

Although both will craft an outstanding lather in the right hands, I prefer badger over boar hair shaving brushes.

Probably just something strange about the chemistry in my bathroom, but I find that for lots of soaps, a badger brush makes nothing but a mug full of messy, runny, bubbly water, while a boar brush makes nothing but mountains and mountains of "sour cream" lather.

I like how soft the badger brush feels, but if it's lather that you want, boar beats badger by a mile.

Now all the badger people can start flaming me.

and of course.. a lot comes down to learning your brush.. i'm willing to bet if you started lathering strictly with a toothbrush.. before long you'd be building great lather.. you've just got to learn how to use your equipment to it's full potential.

I haven't found a boar, horse, synthetic, or crocodile nose hair brush that come even close to best or super badger, but that's just me!

    Default tried both

i have done the above, have a older ever-ready(i think) in badger. i have a vdh boar hair. i like the vdh boar better than the badger lately, am thinking of ordering a upper end boar brush soon, either a omega or that other brand. something with a longer handle, and a bigger loft maybe

I like the scratchiness and stiffness how fast a boar whips up lather on soaps. I just don't like how little lather a boar will ultimately hold vs. a badger. However I have a floppy badger brush and I wonder how I would like a badger of a lesser grade with more backbone.

So long story short I prefer many things about a boar brush but usually tough it out with my badger because of the amount of lather it'll hold.

I seem to use my boar slightly more than my badgers, i think its because my boar is a big brush which i seem to like.

I don't prefer boar over badger, and vice versa...

For me, it's a horses for courses thing, and I tend to pick the tool I like for the job at hand.
