Thanked: 7I have a boar brush by Penaligans and it is definitely a lot scratchier than my free AofS badger brush I got from a friend.
Depends on what you like...scratchy (boar) or soft (badger)... on your skin

I have 1 badger and a 2 boar brushes, the badger performs best with the creams but the boars are better with the soaps.
For me its which product I'm choosing to make the lather with that dictates which brush I want to use.

I do because that's all I have right now...
I'm almost thinking that I will like the boars hair only because I plan on using soap for the most part and the stiffer hair feels great on the neck...

Thanked: 7I have purchased a boar hair about a week ago, and must a agree, boar for soap and badger for creams, I also agree that the boar feels good on the neck. But over all, I think im liking the $5 boar compared to the $50 badger. Although i have sensitive skin, i will see.

My favorite brush is an omega boar with a red handle. I use it everyday and my badger brushes just sit on the medicine cabinet not being used. I only use soaps which may be a reason why.

Boar brushes offer fantastic value and enable a great shave. But if you want to enjoy a shavers paradise, a two band with great backbone is hard to beat for soaps.
And as a cream user, top quality silvertips are pure indulgence.
As with everything, buy what you can afford and enjoy. I love my cheap boar brushes. And my two bands and silvertips!

My go to brushes are boar, I have 3 badger brushes(pure, finest and silvertip) and I would be surprised if I've used them 6 times combined in the past year, I find them too floppy for my taste. Lately I have been reaching for my Kent VS70 nearly every day with the Omegas and Semogue scattered in. One day I may use a badger until I've broken it in and see if my opinion changes.

I like boar and badger brushes, but a quality boar brush its hard to beat for its price, like for example a Semogue 1305 or a Omega 80265.
However I do like two band badger brushes for soaps.
