Beautiful brush especially the handle colour-grain.

Thanks, the handle is described as being turned out of brair. Not only does it look good it is fairly tough too. I have managed to drop the brush several times already with no damage to the handle.

I've found the Simpson Manchurian to be about the closest to the old two band than anything else out there. The tips are a bit springier but it comes very close after the Thater brushes.

I have an emperor two band that I've been using exclusively for over a year. It's broken in nicely and is perfect for face lathering.

Mine has lost maybe two to three hairs in 13 months.

Absolutely no experience with the old 2 bands or Thater brushes but they must be very good as I would not trade this brush for anything. It comes closest to giving me what I feel is the right balance of softness vs backbone for me. The only other brush I would not part with is an SOC 2 band badger and it is not far behind the Manchurian in feel, just a little more backbone and not as much bloom. The Manchurian will face or bowl lather equally well while the SOC 2 band badger is only slightly less adept at bowl lathering. Anyway, I am not in much of a hurry to get more badger brushes now.

Congrats, that is a great brush!

I have quite a few brushes, but if I had to pick just one, the Manchurian would be a very hot candidate!

    That handle is really beautiful.
It would look really nice sitting
next to a fine brier pipe.
