I've never heard of Mallee burl, but it's got my attention! Is the wood suitable for scales?
Definitely. Most burls need to be backed with something when using it for scales, to give it strength along its length. Burls on trees are naturally forming "warts." the grain tends to swirl rather than grow in a straight line. This gives you grain going every which way on scale material, leaving grain going perpendicular to the length of the scale creating a week spot. The backing eliminates this.

It actually handles quite nice. I use my Plisson often, and have never had a problem keeping a firm grip.

Pixel is right. This piece in fact, in its raw form, was still not completely dry. Some need time to completely dry before you use them.

When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.
