Thanked: 2284Definitely. Most burls need to be backed with something when using it for scales, to give it strength along its length. Burls on trees are naturally forming "warts." the grain tends to swirl rather than grow in a straight line. This gives you grain going every which way on scale material, leaving grain going perpendicular to the length of the scale creating a week spot. The backing eliminates this.

Thanked: 2284Pixel is right. This piece in fact, in its raw form, was still not completely dry. Some need time to completely dry before you use them.
