I hunt for woods and burls like most of you guys hunt razors.
I used to make primitive bows, snow boards and skate boards as well as some other odd projects, in fact I may still have the moisture meter around here somewhere.

I had built a small wood kiln out of cinder blocks just stacked on each other with no mortar and a couple 60W light bulbs, worked pretty well for the small amount of wood I was working with.

It's funny you guys bring this up. I just read about this a couple days ago. Had no idea they all came from Eucalyptus trees. I get all my info from. wood-database.com I'll have to check out Jarrah burl again. I'm sure it's lovely.

I suppose your right. I've always looked at them as warts but they are more of a tumor I suppose. There are two different types, as I've read in a book by David Ellsworth. An Onion type and a pin burl, which is a series of dormant buds.

One of the worst burls I've turned for foreign matter was Briar. Nothing like hitting a pocket of sand. Ahhhhhh!!!
