What does that have to do with the argument? The OP is after some useful tips - your comment is irrelevant.

ps. As well as irrelevant, it's also ungrammatical and has capitals on the wrong words.

Here is me thinking the OPs question in this thread was where to source badger hair knots from. The "argument" was whether one source was a more ethical choice than the other because one had better working conditions. That, along with why one source of badger knots demands more money for the product than the other.

Badgers have to be killed in order to supply the hair for knot making and comes from a single source. The how and why badgers are killed really did not enter into it and so not really relevant to where to buy badger hair knots from.

    Experience counts

Reading here makes me wonder a bit

Allegedly,, other then a very few select old world Brush makers all the knots out there are made in China, all the Badger hair comes from China, except a very few Finnish Black knots, as I understand it...

And we are "discussing" the differences interesting to say the least..

I do understand better than most about Stacking, Trimming, and Stuffing, I just seriously doubt many, if any, could feel a difference, or even see a difference in performance...

So I have to go by everyday experience in the real world

I guess by reading another Brush thread that I abuse the holy heck outta my brushes

    I use Borax
I smash the crap outta them
    I use VERY hot water
    I swirl round and round
Shake em, Rub them dry on a towel, probably a few more "Rules" I break that I don't even know about

I have a couple of high end ones, and some Restores and Customs that have TGN knots and one Finnish Black Badger

My personal brushes don't shed, don't smell, and work just fine, even in my EXTREMELY hard water, they do have a funny rust colored tinge to the hair now but that is something we just deal with here in the woods ...

I have had exactly two knots out of 100+ from TGN that came back for "shedding" both were instantly replaced, one was a HMW, and one was a Finest, I was just reading about a Simpson that was returned for shedding also that was replaced.. Honestly what more can you ask for

Thanks Glen, that makes me wonder about the legitimacy of arguments inline with statements like "high-end knots are better than others"... But as I like to know for myself by experience, I will buy some high-end ones and test them out.. I'll see what the hype is about. Perhaps I will be amazed! Hehehe I'm open to possibilities. Not too much of a loss for the experience.
There was no argument on my side. I simply had no need to get into an ethics debate. Again, this was simply a quality inquiry. The aim of this thread has been accomplished and I for one have a much better perspective! Thank you all for the good input.

Can anyone give information regarding the building of knots for and by oneself??? This seems the next step.
Is there a thread on that? Should I start one?

    Cheers gents!

This is what a hand tied Simpsons knot looks like after it has been exposed by accidentally dropping the brush Chubby 2 Super carnage .

This is how Simpsons knots are made

This is what a TGN badger knot looks like Finest Badger Hair knots .

There must be different ways to make a knot or some simply remove the hand tie after the gluing step.
