Thanked: 70Harrywally: thanks for the idea. I have two of #3s that I cleaned up and restored though I cheaped out and used Chinese knots. Big mistake, too floppy. Because of you I just ordered a ShaveMace 24mm Do1, 2 band. Being cheap costs more - the money spent on the Chinesse knots should have gone to ShaveMac in the first place. What a dumb ass I can be at times.

Seems all badger comes from China. Even buying direct from there, good and bad quality exists.
Some of my favorite brushes have 2-bands from China. The best ones. Worth a bit more.
The Shavemacs are for the picky. They take the hair and somehow match it to what they are making. Smooth brushes, Fine makeup quality and consistancy.
I have a few thanks to MikeB52.
Perfect knots, IMO. I like them too.
A cheap Chinese knot is not good for me either.

Andrew and anyone else....
I just got a Rubberset 4 last night. It's on the way.
Any tips and advice anyone can offer for the restore would be appreciated.
It looks great and Idon't want to muck this up!
Thanks,

Thanked: 4206Hey Pete. Take the time to get it unthreaded to get the original knot out cleanly.
Use penetrant, strap wrenches, etc to get the original threads working again.
Once apart you can attack the rubber from the backside and carve, dissolve it away with much more forgiveness. Just be aware to not foul the original threads in your zeal, lest it not screw back together again upon completion. .

Has anyone here tried heat to expand the top and not the bottom to loosen them?
I am not talking about acetylene torch type heat, Maybe a paint stripper gun and a wet rag around the base.
Another example of my thinking out loud.

The main thing is to have some Loonies in the handle to give it some weight!
