Thanked: 2284Rubberset 3 reknot.
I've been working on a few brushes recently and have finally completed them.
This one is the sought after aluminium Rubberset #3. I removed the original floppy boar hair out of and replaced it with the ever famous ShaveMac D01 2 band. Funny story, I've been plagued with badger knots recently that have all had huge bulges above the glue plug. So a standard 24mm knot that I typically drill a 1" hole for, needs a much bigger hole to fit them into. So when I ordered this D01 knot from Shavemac, I originally ordered a 23mm to give myself some room. Luckily, (for me anyways) ShaveMac was having issues within the family company, which delayed my order long enough to second guess the 23mm decision. I checked a 20mm D01 that I had sitting here, and forgot how perfect these knots come, and decided to change my order to a 24mm, one size larger. The 24mm fits absolutely perfect into this handle. So glad I changed it. I also filled the handle just below the threads inside (for those who have seen the inside of one of these) so that in the future if this ever gets reknotted, they should still be able to unscrew the top.
I'm a bit jealous of this one. The handle and this knot together is stunning, and will truly be a top tier brush..... for a very long time I might add.
I used one nickel in this handle to get the proper loft, so there's money in this handle too TC.

Thanked: 315Looks great. I thought those rubberset handles were larger though. Seeing it in your hand makes it look similar in size to a lot of the other older brushes. That doesn't mean I'll pass one up if ever come across it though!!
Do those old knots become work bench dust brushes?
Or they clean your keyboards?

I was waffling about whether or not to buy one of those from Italian Barber. Think I have made up my mind. Sure hope I can find one in boar though..

The #4 is a lot larger then the #3. I have not seen any other numbered brushes of that style. If one is to pay the price, I would assure that the brush is actually a Rubberset. The same brush was also marketed by a couple of the strop and razor manufacturers and sales companies, and marked as such.

Sorry for the confusion,
Other companies, I believe, marketed Rubberset brushes under their own trade name
. I have not owned one so I cannot say for sure but I think "Red Imp" was one of them.
I also think that I read that there is another maker at "this" time making a repo. Again, I cannot say for certain.
New info...Yes, Italian Barber does sell a similar brush of 24mm similar to the Rubberset #4.

It's about time, Harrywally! Nice work!
The #3 and #4 handles were the same. The loft was the difference.
