Once apart you can attack the rubber from the backside and carve, dissolve it away with much more forgiveness. Just be aware to not foul the original threads in your zeal, lest it not screw back together again upon completion. .
    Good luck!
This is good advice. By being patient, letting penetrating (croil) oil do its' thing & using a strap wrench I got my two apart with no damage.

Seems to me that the hardest thing will be to get a good grip on the top part without leaving a mark or bending the metal. I guess I'll be shopping for a small strap wrench. I've used them plenty before with mixed results. Some grip...some slip.

Use another wrench strap on it.

Make sure you are gripping the part over the knot glue and not the threads while doing this. If you grip over the threads you can be making the tighter.

I have used and recommend tapping with a hammer to loosen things but of course with aluminium this wont be practical. I was looking into this on the web and ran across an interesting idea. I don't know if it would work here but the put a wrench and a weight on the end of it to hold a steady pressure. Penetrating oil on the part and go to bed. They say that the steady pressure over time will work with the oil.

Basically, that is how your mom could always open a jar you or dad couldn't. Steady pressure is the secret.

I used penetrant overnight. Mouse milk is my personal fav, having never tried kroil.
Also immersed the head only, in boiling water for 30 seconds before torquing it with the opposing strap wrenches.
Took a few tries for sure, But I’m stubborn, and a little ‘challenge’ oriented..
