Old school book reader here. For few times i've thought about trying ebooks but not too seriously. Who knows, never say never.

I am another old school hard copy book reader. A couple of years ago my wife and I took our adult kids and their SOs to Costa Rica for a week vacation. I brought a separate piece of luggage just to hold my weeks worth of books and the kids all brought their Kindles with thousands of books. So I tried a Kindle. Now I do about 70% of my reading on a Kindle.

I'm sure there will come a day when reading a book made from paper is about as strange and uncommon as shaving with a straight. I prefer a real book and most things the old fashioned way. I'm reluctant to keep up with latest technology...as I type this on my iPhone.

Both.
I must confess that my Kindle is the one that sees the most use these days.
Especially after the Kindle Paperwhite 2 came out.
Makes reading in a dark room ever so pleasant.
That and the vast library available instantly for a fraction of the cost makes me prefer the Kindle most days.

I prefer my E-reader, it's just so convenient, want a new book, a couple of "clicks" away and it's downloaded and ready to read.

Reason I responded though, had an interesting thought the other day. So we all know if we could go back in time, we'd have a suitcase full of various NOS razors for today. So I was wondering what might be potentially the next collectible thing. And it occurred to me it could very well be books. Unless cared for properly, depending on the paper and the binding, they don't necessarily last that long.

And with environmental concerns, and the simple cost of printing and distribution, it's probable that books themselves are living on borrowed time. So, in 30-50 years, will owning a "real book" be a big collectible...people will enjoy being, "old school" and actually handling and holding a, "real book".

Makes you think more about holding onto some of those books you have rather than donating them. Nowadays, at least in my area, the book shops don't want any more of people's old books, you can't give them away anymore where 10-15 years ago you could get a little bit of cash for them.

I also love reading a physical book and thought ereaders were absolutely absurd; then I got one as a gift. I love it now, but I will say this; I prefer a Paper White Kindle with no LCD display than reading on a full color tablet. The Paper White screen has insane graphics, but looks so similar to an actual book. Use Facebook on Kindle Paperwhite and you feel like it's the 1950's with the internet. As said, with an ereader buying books is a breeze, books are cheaper to buy, carrying a library is no problem on a trip and my favorite feature is being able to instantly tap a word and find its dictionary definition without ever leaving your book. I find myself reading hard copies and reaching to tap the words for definitions like I am on my Kindle. I still greatly enjoy the overall experience of having a true, real book in my hands or visiting a library (THAT GREAT SMELL!!!), but most of my reading is done on a Kindle which never leaves my briefcase.

Funny you should mention that smell...DR Harris Windsor reminds me of that smell...like a museum or library...one of my favorite soaps.

I may have to purchase some of that soap now and I was doing so good with my SAD!

Reading THE BOOK OF THE SAMURAI THE WARRIOR CLASS OF JAPAN, very good book, lots of information and some great illustrations.
