I quit 20 years ago, I used 1 approach, I quit. I had made up my mind if I said I was trying to quit I was implying to myself and others that there was a chance of failure. I bought 3 Lbs of modeling clay. 26 board foot of oak & 8 ea. 10' sticks of 5/8 square stock steel. I also bought a giant bad of jolly ranchers.
Between woodworking, Blacksmithing and playing with clay I double dog dared anyone to talk to me for 3 days.
3 days turned into 3 weeks, that turned into 3 months. 20 years later I am glad I kicked Mr. Viceroy's butt to the curb.
Last summer, I threw away the pack that set in my jewelery box unopened all those years.A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check, made payable to the United States of America, "for an amount up to and including my life".

Yeah, I quit cigarettes six years ago but only smoked a pack a week. Still have dreams about smoking and being really disappointed at myself for starting up again every now and then. I quit cold turkey and started back at my chosen sport, because I was compelled to slog my guts out would not touch the cigarettes any more for fear I would drop in the middle of a training session. The thing that did it for me was I lit one up and then hid from my niece who was watching, that is when the light bulb went on

Thanked: 8I stopped smoking about 5 yrs ago. I watched a video by a chap called Alan Carr called easy ways to stop. Got it on eBay for 4 quid, he also has books. I watched it one time only and never smoked again, the great thing was I never had any withdrawal symptoms. I was a pack a day man. His system for me was the best very easy, just watch and listen for about 1 hour that's it.

I was thinking about this thread yesterday. Going only 11 months now, not one cigarette.

Thanked: 116June 22, 2006... I quit cold turkey and not a single smoke since. I still get small cravings from time to time, but they literally last only an instant.

I quit six months ago after 6 years. Best thing I've ever done for myself. Cold turkey. Like the leftovers from thanksgiving.
