I've been quit for 12 years now. It was my fourth or fifth time trying to quit and this time it seems to be working a day at a time, nights and weekends too. I quit cold turkey and for me, a good estimate would be that I craved a cigarette with mind, body and soul 1000 individual times before it got better. The way I came up with 1000 is that I craved a cigarette about every 15 minutes, for about 17 waking hours a day, for about two weeks. Then it started getting better. Sometimes I still want one but it's pretty rare nowadays and I just don't want to go back there and have to do it all over again.

I am in Charlotte. Rented a furnished townhome for a couple of months until I can find a place to buy. Looking just across the border in S. Carolina too. Taxes seem to be significantly lower down there.

Welcome to the Carolinas. I'm from Asheville, but have lived in Spartanburg, SC for most of my life. Charlotte is a great city, but it's trying to become another Atlanta traffic and sprawl wise. Lots of nice places to live around York, Fort Mill, etc. Three of my fishing buddies live in Clover. Take care. Aaron

Thanks Aaron. My job is on the SW side of town. I was looking at places around Fort Mill yesterday. You're right. It doesn't look like they have built enough infrastructure yet to support all of that development that's going on down there.

Made an offer last night for a place on a couple of acres in Matthews. Fingers crossed here.

March 4, 1986@1610 hours after an extremely violent encounter with an individual. That was the last time I had a smoke. It was not easy. Back then I followed the US Army Guide to physical fitness which had a chapter just for qutting. Best thing and hardest I’ve ever done. Cant believe it was over 30years ago.

I have never smoked tobacco in my life. But I have watched as lung disease has claimed my friends one by one. Its heart breaking, and devastating.

I for one am both proud and glad for all of you quitters out there. Dont quit at quitting!

    Stay strong guys

I gave up the cigarettes years ago. I thought that it went with a fair amount of ease. I had come to the realization that I couldn't keep smoking and live the kind of life that I wanted to live. So it was a matter of "what's it going to be" cigarettes or health, take your pick. The coffin nails lost. When I quit there was a half a pack of Camels on my night stand. I guess they'd still be there if I yet had the night stand. I never went in for all the grandstanding of making a big scene about quitting. I mean I'd always think "what will people think if you cave in and have a smoke? So I kept my quitting to myself until I was over the hump. All in all the method worked well for me.

I finally stopped about 5 years ago. I had done the patch, cut back, quit for a few days, backslid, you name it, for 5 years.

My last 9 months or so I was having 3-5 a day. I ended up spending a week in the hospital with my only major asthma attack(knock on wood) when I was released, I lit one up in the backyard and my world started spinning and I fell. While the lawn was wobbling, I swore off tobacco and haven't had one since.

Yes. all you have to have is the proper incentive. I smoked for about 40-45 years. at the end it was about 3 packs Marl-bough red a day. March the 2 2001 I got my left leg crushed at work. June 19 they told me I had throat cancer. I had just burred my best friend for most of those years to cancer. I went through 38 radiation treatments preside of my neck and mouth in that many days. I was cooked to that extra rare stage of stakes. I lost my taste buds after the 5th treatment and my spit shortly after that.which lead to loosing all my teeth. I quite smoking sitting in a chair with nothing but re runs on tv. the only time I went anywhere was to the Doc for more treatment. I went from 257 lb to 156 lb in a little over 4 months. I existed on ensure and a bottle of water. one each a day. The sad thing is I did enjoy smoking. But you can quit if you really want go. make up you mind that that little shit will not control you and stick with it.

Oh and the day i quit i have never had another smoke. no weaning off just quite.
