I normally wouldn't comment on this subject but I'll try this time. My earliest recollection of a firearm was on an early hunting trip with my father, grandfather, and uncles. Of course they taught me the correct use and respect for guns. 45 years later I still enjoy skeet & trap shooting. They also instilled in me an understanding that sometimes the simple solution is the best one given the circumstances.
Whenever another senseless shooting as this happens I always hear a million potential reasons why. I agree the causes could be bad parenting, video games, poor education, racism, off their meds, lack of opportunities in life, boredom, etc... etc ..... enter your favorite one here "______". It would be nice if we had enough money, time and resources to fix all these problems but we don't and that's not changing. It's not like we shouldn't try it's just a very long arduous process. First you need agreement on how to fix them. Good luck with that.
The simple fact is that if carrots were the easiest way for someone to indiscriminately kill another person or people and you allow ready availability of carrots to almost anyone then don't be surprised when the incidence of carrot related murder continues to happen. And make no mistake it will continue to happen. There is a simple solution. I'm reminded of Einsteins definition if insanity.Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Thanked: 485Interesting, but like HNSB may have inferred, it's surely more than drugs and video games etc. As I said, though, I think video games may add to the mix, but it surely is also what kids see and grow up with?
My part of the world certainly is possibly different to yours, but it is also true that it also has a lot of similarities in certain areas. I try and distance myself a lot from those areas; I'm lucky to live ion a small town in the hills, and I can escape from the suburbs where all the shit happens. I hate going to town and feel amused and saddened by what I see when I do. I do realise that I live in a sort of 'haven' and thank God I do.
When I talk to the kids about moving out of my little shack in my little hamlet they always say 'no'; they like our simple little life with our dogs and simple lifestyle. That's not to day they aren't influenced. But I think I've bought them up well.
In my humble opinion, when my oldest son got a Bible verse on his forearm in huge letters as his first tatt (Praise the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, praise His Holy name) I was very proud. I did caution him against 'putting it out there' like that, but he stood by his convictions. I'm not getting all 'preachy' just think I must have done something right, is all...
I 'taught' my kids a lot when camping, and simply talking about shit around the campfire. This 'teaching' veered between how to site a platoon in defence and where to put your MG and Anti Tank weapons, what three weapons you'd choose for the Zombie Apocalypse and why nothing is an important as God. They were very interesting times. Teaching needs to be holistic, just talking about stuff round a fire or around the kitchen table. It's of vital vital importance, it's what my job is...Last edited by carlmaloschneider; 08-25-2013 at 04:44 AM.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 1184Carl , all humans are perfect and fully understand the morality God put in them until they reach the age of about 5. From then on they are taught what is right and wrong and how to get around that to justify what they do by accident or to simply get their way. They do not learn from just their parents but from all things they see and interact with on a daily basis. This process goes on the rest of your life and to start over is next to impossible. Short of a miracle from God himself you are jaded by the experiences of life. God is in you. He is in everything. Hard to fathom those words and so you are told in everything written about God. You simply just don't know how to connect with it like you did when you were innocent from all you have learned. The more you do connect with it the harder it is to live on this planet. Why ? Because Evil is at an all time high right now. This brings about feelings of fear and anger, none of which helps you think . You merely react. What I see is more people are learning this and that would be the first step in changing things. What I have read in this thread that gives me hope for humanity is that we are all sorry and feel for each other. Even those who do not recognize what many call God have the same feelings. It does not matter if you call it God, creator , higher power, the source, or the force, it is in you. You can read all you want but the answers are inside you. Even those that do the evil have it in them. Just consider what they have learned not what they overlooked. In this country, that is run by a hybrid corporation, there is no room for what our forefathers intended to create. One nation under God is not the prime goal anymore. It does not have to be MY God, just the god within all, what ever you call it. If you don't think you have it in you it is because you haven't looked hard enough. These word/ideas I speak of are in all the books. Christian , Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, the writings of ancient civilizations long gone. It is the ruling class that has polluted these words from presidents to kings and queens to popes. Why ? To grow their kingdoms and have influence over more. Forget all that and look inside. That is were you will find the power to understand, forgive, and love. Forget all you've been taught and look at the basics. This is what is being lost. This is what is wrong.
The Mayans have a phrase they use as a salutation and it is also a lifestyle. It is " in lak'ech " which roughly translated means, " I am another you. " The extended version of the golden rule " Do unto others......" . Extended because they said it to the animals, the trees, the ground, the sky. It is the understanding that everything I do affects you and everything you do affects me. If you can, think about that some. It is the golden rule on steroids.
So as in the first post I join in sorrow, and ad, God helps those who help themselves. No miracle is going to come and save us. The miracle would be if we saved ourselves. This is what we live to learn. Every atom lives in balance with negative and positive. And so must we.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I think some of your key words, undermine your theory here; like "indiscriminately kill, murder, senseless ".
Maybe you should have ran a simple GOOGLE search on " Choking to death by carrots or death by carrots" before you used carrots as an example. You might find the results interesting, to say the least.
But,,
I guess we could solve the carrot related death problem, by getting rid of the carrots.
I never really cared for carrots anyway.
Oh,,BTW,,,your treading toward a topic that has been banned from discussion on SRP.
