Not at all. Russia is simply looking after its own geopolitical interests, and getting involved in an outright war with US is absolutely not in the cards. Putin as every other politician has his own internal politics to mind, and they include high price of natural gas, but more importantly keeping the status quo of long-term contracts with pricing tied to the price of oil. Of course they'd also prefer no alternative pipelines, but that's not as important, and Saudi Arabia has already been blocking the Qatar gas flow for many decades for their own political calculations to the extent that Qatari's former ruler had to take the risk of huge debt to build the world's biggest infrastructure for LNG.
And Russia is most definitely not interested in simply handing to US their spheres of influence across the middle east. That's the back yard of Russia while US has reached over two oceans to meddle in there.
Certainly there is some of the cold war mentality in the mix, but that's on both sides.

Thanked: 1185Wait we are not IN world war 3 ? What would you call it. World confrontations 1 ? What exactly is the definition of a world war anyway? Oh yeah here it is...." a war engaged in by all or most of the principal nations of the world " . Now the efforts of each nation may not be coordinated and the conflicts not shared in every other conflict but dare I say we have been in a world war for a long time. It just hasn't been declared.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

You got me!!!
I was just about to post that song! See you in an hour and a half!
Touche'....well played sir!
I wonder if the reference to, "send me a salami" is to Katz's Delicatessen in NYC, where they sent soldiers salami's overseas, and have done so for every conflict to date. It's also famed for the deli scene in, "Where Harry met Sally".
