Doesn't look so different than seeing pics where (later) allied politicians or high rankin military personnel meeting with mr funny moustache and his court prior 1939. Or the pics from Jalta konferenz. Spokesmen from both capitalists and communists world shaking happily hands.
Was dining together the worst thing they ever did?

No, it's just normal. As long as even the deepest enemies think they have something to gain from eachother they are happily to share a dinner or to sell even their principles. Not to talk about the rulers of the not-so-important small nations who have no choice but to take what's given. Like giving a dog a bone for making it our friend. Once they refuse eating and wagging their tails foir the boine given, they will be crushed. Just everyday politics.

Its bad in the predictable areas.... the Austin district, Englewood, South Shore. But it underscores how important it is for people from out of town to stay in the safe areas and be cautious of wandering too far off into unknown territory. I stay away from anything hosted by the city along the lake front and have for about ten or more years now. It attracts the worst elements. But for the most part, the downtown area, Loop, River North, Lincoln Park, Wrigley area....these are still fine.

Could someone fill me in here, why is Russia mad at us, because the U.S. won't get involved. At this point, a war with Syria means a guaranteed war with Iran, no? Who knows what that will start...

Sorry if this post is not PC enough...

...But the only thing I give a shite about with this whole Syria debacle is the fact that it's going to put a whole lot of brave American servicemen and women in harms way for the sake of some a**hole's ego...

Not exactly. On the surface, Russia is an ally of Syria so they are publicly skeptical of any action against their friends. But not so on the surface is the article that I posted that suggests that the real driving force behind all of this Syria business is two gas pipelines planned for serving Europe. The Russians have backed one pipeline that taps into Iranian gas fields and potentially builds a pipeline toward Syria through Iran and Iraq. Another competing pipeline plan bypasses Iran/Iraq and goes from Qatar through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and forms a hub in the Syrian city of Horn. From here it branches to Israel and Lebanon and Turkey. Europe would be served via Turkey. The problem is that in order to accomplish that, regime change in Syria would need to happen as they are loyal to Russian interests. So there is a possibility that Russia and the US are battling not about chem weapons but the fate of two competing pipelines for natural gas in Europe. The fighting in Syria overlays on a map just as the route of the planned pipeline. What keeps that theory from being obvious is who specifically benefits from either pipeline. If this is driving Obama's insistence on military action, the answer may be in those who invested in the project and those who may have financially supported him. I'm sure there may be strategic issues at hand as well, but usually you can follow the money right to total clarity. The money trail on that theory is a little vague to me at the moment.

If I could make the recommendations regarding the Syrian issues it would be the
    following:

    1. With all possible arm twisting by ourselves and allies persuade all the remaining
U.N. members to contribute $ to provide immediate medical and food aid to the
Syrian refugees. Distribution of food and other relief to be done directly by U.N.
troops to the refugees with no interference allowed by the host country. Actively
monitor this op to ID any of the U.N. members who are scamming the op.

    2. With U.N. members who actually have significant military SOG capabilities that
can be trusted undertake night ops to single out and isolate all known Syrian weapons
of mass destruction storage sites (chemicals) and hold until experts can determine
how to destroy the stocks with the least possible contamination events. At the same
time as this op kicks off and again with U.N. members who have military air forces,
to include Saudi Arabian jets and other oil rich Arabian countries who have air
forces to assault all known Syrian aircraft and artillery and armor locations. Also
assault larger Syrian infantry troop locations if we know the barracks are primarily
    just infantry.

    3. Provide restricted arms and ammo to the real Syrian rebel forces and exclude all the Islamic
terrorist organizations fighting in-country some of whom are currently killing members of the Syrian rebel forces who
    oppose the terrorist groups.
Provide limited air support only to Syrian rebels as they isolate groups of known Islamic extremist organizations.

    4. With the entire stock of chemicals of mass destruction and delivery means used
with them safely destroyed all U.N. members associated with the chemical concerns
    would leave the country immediately.

    5. With the country somewhat stable encourage the members of the Syrian coalition
parties to be to arrest the individuals from the former regime responsible for chemical
and other attacks against the civilian populace and when a new government is voted in
and formed put the arrested individuals on trial.

    YMMV

yawn, back from fantasy land and out to the garage for a cigar and some straight razor honing.
And just to be clear I hope to live long enough to pp on Jane Fonda's grave.

First of all Putin is an old school Russian-Communist and ex KGB. He dislikes the U.S and views us with suspicion from the old cold war days. So anything he can do to monkey wrench us is his great to him. Additionally Syria is Russia's buddy so they will support them and go against us if we interfere in that area.

Wouldn't surprise me, although who knows what that will cause. World War III, reinstating the draft, etc.
