Ford offered gang members $5,000, car for crack video
By David Silverberg
Dec 4, 2013 - 2 hours ago in World
Toronto - Newly released court documents reveal Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who admitted to smoking crack, allegedly offered gang members $5,000 and a car in exchange for the "crack video" that started this wild mess for the embattled mayor.
Weeks before the alleged video taping the mayor using crack was shown to Toronto Star reporters, Ford offered “five thousand and a car” to get it back, according to wiretap documents now available to media outlets.
The offer came in March, while the world only found out about the alleged crack video in mid-May.
The plot thickens even further: After Ford allegedly offered $5,000 and a car to those in possession of the damaging video, those supposedly holding the video said they also wanted to ask Ford for more, closer to $150,000. Thanked: 3228You know, I am not puzzled by what Mr. Ford is but am mystified by that fact that people still support him. Man, it is all like the Bizarro comic strip came to life.

Thanked: 1195Completely agree with you Bob. I can't wrap my head around how that man still has supporters on council or anywhere else for that matter, or how the good people of Toronto, which is a very liberal cosmopolitan city, elected that clown TWICE.
Though I suppose I really shouldn't be surprised. My home province has made a grand tradition of electing clowns into public office at every level: city council/mayor, MLA/premier and MP's. In every election I don't know a single person who voted for the winner yet they seem to get re-elected every time. Money talks and bullshit walks...

Really...it's a real head shaker...many think it's all the downtown Toronto people that continually vote the Liberals in, they steal us blind, line their pockets and those of their friends, and when they get caught, AGAIN, they act mystified and promise more transparency until the next billion dollars goes down the drain.
Big one happening now in Ontario is a little girl, Madi Vanstone, multi-generational Canadian, she has a rare form of CF, and the Province denied funding for her life saving drugs, while approving universal health coverage for refugee claimants who had been DENIED their claims, i.e, their refugee claim was bogus and they are ordered out. Now, this is not to be confused with refugee claimants who are here awaiting their hearing, they are still covered, it's those that have been told their claims are denied.
So, the provincial Liberals, after losing billions and billions of dollars, now extend gold plated coverage to people who have no business here, while cutting benefits to Veterans, hone care for seniors, and life saving drugs for little 12 year old girls. Her entire community is holding bake sales etc.. to raise additional funds, and as one columnist put it, let the failed refugee claimants hold the bake sales...
But Liberals are Liberals, the only position they ever hold, is the one that will get them voted in, and if one position doesn't work, simply flip-flop until you find the right one. In this case, the Liberals know they're doomed, so they're going after the immigrant vote...cynicism at it's worst.
This whole mess, as soon as you start to think about it, just destroys any sense of peace of mind...rant over.

Yeah, it's a little baffling.
Re his support: it's a matter of enough people buying his 'fighting for the little guy' line hook, line, and sinker. He is a man who comes from a very privileged background (not only wealth, but political connections as well: his Dad sat beside and was very close to Flaherty the current federal finance minister in the provincial parliament which I suppose at least explains in part Flaherty's reaction to the Ford saga) who claims to be just an everyday guy who's fighting The Man like everyone else. He claims to fight against the 'gravy train' and the wrongful use of political influence and power, but ordered a TTC bus on a regularly scheduled route *with passengers on board* to unload the passengers and come to pick up his players after a football game ended early. During which time, incidentally, City Council was meeting. I wish I could draw my full salary while avoiding meetings... He has placed personal and family friends in positions of power and influence within his administration. Gravy train ahoy! And this is before we even get into the issues surrounding his own gang connections, drug use, attempted extortion, drinking & driving, not to mention the verbal abuse and physical intimidation of his own staff, fellow councillors, and his recent slanderous comments regarding a Toronto Star reporter. All done by the city's chief magistrate. He has consistently claimed to have save the city of Toronto a fortune. I honestly don't know enough to comment on that, but several recent reports have questioned the extent to which that is true. He has lied, lied, and lied again to the people of Toronto and, more recently, the world, and unfortunately enough people are hoodwinked by the lies in the face of facts to keep him in power.
And while TO is a wonderfully cosmopolitan and (in the grand scheme of things) liberal city, it also includes an immense are made up of more fiscally and socially conservative suburbs that balance that out. His mantra of lower taxes, slashed government, and focus on supporting those who commute by car by attacking cycle and public transit infrastructure sells well to that constituency.
Did you see the report the other day of his brother handing out $20 bills at a community housing building? I don't know what's worse: the blatant attempt to buy votes, or the insulting condescension of the whole scene.
At some point down the line someone close to that family is going to spill the beans and the whole story will come out. And I don't think it will be pretty.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
