Yup OTE=Laurens;1284307]Hmm, light is waves that in some ways behave like particles. In that sense, it is more of a thing than darkness, which is nothing at all and can therefore not be broken, except by light. Light can be broken by a prisma, at least in Dutch, not sure if that works in English too (brewery?). Light beer cannot be broken because it's a liquid, unless you freeze it, but then it will likely break the bottle first.

The other philosophical question was whether we understood a thing of what we were saying. While I do understand the separate words, the sentences are starting to puzzle me. Puzzles cannot be broken, because they already are, into pieces.[/QUOTE]

Yup - prism in English, so easily understood. A puzzle can be broken once it is made. For someone who is confused you are remarkably lucid
If it all stops making sense, just say anything and in the context of this thread you will be all good.
If you are in an interview and it all stops making sense, just nod and make the right noises
If I was on a dutch forum I would have no idea what was going on then again, perhaps I don't here

And already you have said to much,
    can absence be broken,
No, filled I think yes just as the hole can be.

So if we were to fill the hole, as the hole is not broken would it not still be there just in an altered state.

Nothing can be destroyed, only it's energy can change form.
The hole would still be the hole, if you took that away from it you would remove it's purpose for being. If you decide to fill a hole, it's purpose is to contain whatever you fill it with, perhaps a filled hole has attained Zen, once it has been and unbeen it has nothing else to achieve.
It is still a hole is it not, despite not being a hole in the traditional sense anymore, beneath it's exterior, and if the filling were removed the hole would still be there.

So then if you were to dig the hole bigger than it was before being filled, would the hole be broken?
this begs the question is a hole determined by it's physical boundaries or by the beginning of absence, and if you are observing absence it is there to be observed so it can not be absence.
Thus as quantum theory suggests reality is altered merely by observing it.

Anything, while never too much, is always preferable to nothing.

And to get back on topic - if darkness is the absence of light, then why are they called black holes, when they are full of light?
