Pleated waistbands went away and then lower belt lines did for the old styles. Hats were offed by low cars in the 50's and suits were less common for the common man at work. Shorter crotch and less ballroom is the motto today.

I seem to recall that President Reagan was 'Dinged' because his dress pants had 'Cuffs' and weren't 'stylish' for the day.

Personally I thought that those cuffs were 'Classy'

Most all of my dress pants also have 'cuffs' whether or not they are 'stylish' personally I don't care what others think! I like the look.

I can't wait until the roaring '20s comes back in style, even Victorian would be a hell of a lot better than what we have now days. Seems the last 30 years of style is just going to be recycled and mixed over and over and over...
I try to wear a suit often geography plays a part in it..
Don't want my pants to sag like I pooped my pants... don't want the crotch to make me sterile its so tight!

I heard the tale that cuffs were an accident, in the late twenties, of the weather in Jolly Old...
A Toff was dressed to the nines with spats and all. The streets were wet so he rolled his pants above the shoe.
Voila! Fashion was born!
And then when I started work as a tech, cuffs were still in on wash pants ( Khakis)
Perfect place to find the washer or screw dropped at least 60% of the time.

One of my favorite movies is; 'To Sir With Love'. I love it when 'Mr Thackeray' tells his students that when they visit the museum they will find that their hair styles are hundreds of years old and that their clothes are right out of the 1920's!

My suits always had cuffs. I thought the extra weight gave the pant crease a better look.

Geez, don't get me started on this subject. I've just spent weeks of spare time looking for men's clothes with any form of style or class, and drawn the short straw at every turn. I've had to make do with cuff-less, low waisted trousers. Had to sew on my own braces (suspenders to you US citizens I believe) buttons. Couldn't find a single pair of brogues or wingtip shoes in my size, but could find any number of shoes that I'm sure divers could use for flippers...Or clowns could add a dash of colour to and perform a circus act. I passed on those and just added another lick of polish to my elastic sided work boots and deemed them more stylish. Shirts are generally lacking in style, with little variety in collar or cut. And hats seem to be either cheap and nasty or overpriced and cowboy.
