Thanked: 1936The guilty till proved innocent is something that is hard for me swallow. How can I prove the slab of ivory in my shop that I purchased from a well known ivory vendor is legal or not as I don't have the receipt any more...wasn't needed. I live on the OK/TX border, 6 miles on the OK side.
THis just reeks. I respect the intent, but that's as far as I agree with it...kind of like a new tax.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 2027You cannot prove squat even with a receipt from a dealer,The main out used to be,the burden of proof was on the feds, now it is on the seller.
Right or wrong, that will be the law and I will abide by it.
I would not get my pantys in a twist selling an Ivory scaled razor on SRP,but doing so will be against federal law.Is what it is.CAUTION

If you are looking for valid documentation forget it. it's designed so you can't get it and have the ivory. If it's an antique 100 years old or more and you're talking an ivory piece like a figurine usually the item itself will tell you what you want to know. Also an appraisal will work. If it's just a piece of raw ivory there is no way I know of to prove it's age. If you have a part of a tusk often times it has numbers impressed into the tusk itself or you could have paperwork from the Govt involved.
Basically the law is designed to stop the trade period.
As far as the old law was concerned having to prove anything was never the Govt's responsibility. U.S Customs has warehouses full of ivory they confiscated over the years. If you have an ivory shipment coming into the country and you can't prove how you got it you don't get it period. The difference now is interstate commerce has been added and many provisions of the old law were simply never enforced. Supposedly now they will though I have my doubts.
Basically the old law was set up so once you got it into the country you were home free and could do anything you wanted. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Selling Ivory could be the same as selling 1 GM of herion.
The upper teeth are called Ivory because they have no enamal layer, are only two in the upper jaw,They are the Canines, but eye teeth may be another name for them.
The back chatter form other police departments of this area is in.. The guy shot had ...wait for it...no gun...no drugs were found in a nine hour search..he is still dead! The guy that ratted feared the cops less than the real suppliers.
Wasn't it a year ago the the huge slush fund Obama signed over was used by BATF /Narcs to buy a huge amount of guns??
HMMMM!Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Wish Pixel would not bug out! We need him on this. I cannot see the government being interested in a few ounces of antique razor scales. Surely Ebay was harassing sellers a few years ago and has since quit. I still think vintage ivory is a good investment. It is, after all, ivory. NOT to condone recently poached ivory ( Not that ALL of it was not poached at one time or another). I look at it as gems which were gleaned which will never be done again. Sadly, that seems to be untrue.
I suppose I use this to justify my possession and preservation of old ivory items. This was the 'platinum' before there was platinum! Bone and horn were the plastics and acrylics. These items are part of history and are completely legit to own, IMO. Come and take em!
I Digress!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
