Thanked: 3223On a totally different aspect of this mystery I am really puzzled/annoyed at the situation with the relatives of the missing. I can understand being grief stricken especially after 11 days of no concrete answers but threatening a hunger strike is going to magically conjure up conclusive answers? Add to that the Chinese government seems to be winding up the grieving relatives even more by asserting there is more that could have been done.
After 11 days would not grief counseling be more beneficial in accepting the highly likely possibility that the passengers are dead? I am sure everyone involved in the search is trying their utmost to find a conclusive answer and a hunger strike would accomplish nothing. Yea I know, I have the sensitivity of a brick.

First of all there is no such thing as a "communications shadow." If there were, how could aircraft flying in formation communicate? If he could get close enough to another aircraft the radar tracks would merge but oh how "bitching Betty" would be screaming in their headsets and the alarms would be shrieking in both aircraft and ATC!. Doing it at night with no idea of where the other plane was heading would be crazy. Finally if the missing flight left the airway, there was no other traffic to get close to/follow.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Well, I suppose I mischaracterized that guy's theory. He thinks 370 was following another aircraft fairly closely - just closely enough to show up as a single blip on ground radar and of course the other plane's transponder would light up. One of the problems with the wild theories that 370 went to one of the stans is why was it not detected by military radar in India or in ?? and he's attempting to explain that.
And I didn't say that I believed him, simply that there's another take on the subject.

To pull this off requires closing to well under 400 yds and a few feet of altitude. Commercial aircraft enroute are kept at least 5 miles apart in trail. To pull this off would require a LONG time on the approach with minimal extra throttle for the overtake. Heck just pulling off a standard refueling join up requires quite a bit of time and that is with communication and cooperation! Then closing the last 1/4 mile seemed to take about 5 minutes in the day light and that is with the refueler well slowed at that point!
I think the alien explanation is more likely! The easy road is rarely rewarding.
