"Gentle On My Mind"
Went to breakfast with my son this morning at our favorite weekend spot. Left at 8:45 to check for yard sales on the way home,,, found 3 of them,, nothing at all on the first two,, didn't even get out of the car.
Drove up to the third one & saw a large amount of DVD's/CD's on a table. So we got out & said hello to the owner, an older women & her teenage son. I looked toward the CD's & the young man proudly told me that they were all the "RAP" artists of the past 10 years. "All RAP?", I asked,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Yes, all Rap.", he replied.
If my legs were long enough, I would have kicked myself in the a$$ for getting out of the car. As I turned away, I saw a ray of sunlight,,,,, there among the RAP was a Glenn Campbell CD, All Time Favorite Hits from 1977, Capitol Records. I said, "Not all RAP son.",, pulling it out. He looked shocked & stated, "I wonder where that came from." I don't know, but I'll take it,,,,& I did for $1.00.
I plugged it into the DVD player as we headed home. I had not heard this song since the late 70's.
Enjoy it,,,, I did,,,,,,,

Great song, John! I love his version of Wichita Lineman too. He was also quite the guitar player.

You don't need long legs to kick yourself in the butt. You just have to learn the "backstroke". Just remember to take off your cowboy boots if you're wearing spurs.

Thanked: 1587I grew up with Glen Campbell. As a kid, on family holidays, we'd be made to listen to Glen Campbell, Charlie Pride, Marty Robbins et al on the interminably long stretches of road between overnight caravan parks. Somewhere along the way I started to enjoy them.
Probably my most favourite Glen Campbell song is I knew Jesus (Before he was a Superstar), closely followed by his cover of Bonaparte's Retreat. They are just kinda toe-tapping.

That's a great song. Gotta be quick to sing along! I remember as a kid, the Smothers Brothers did a parody. He was a regular on their show.
I still sing "knowin' that your door is always open and your furniture is gone"!
Glen went downhill after marrying that Tanya Tucker. Had a rough later life. I Remember that movie he made, 'Norwood"."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Yep! John Hartford was a great song writer!
Whenever my wife gets to come to one of my shows I have to sing and play this one for her.
One of my favorites too.Available for honing mentoring in and around Louisville, KY
