Here you go X - I'm with you mate

My wife and I bought 2 acres of wet sclerophyll native forest - cleared and fenced 3/4 of an acre, planted it with natives and whacked our house on it. We've left the other acre or so untouched for the wildlife to enjoy.

We've got a green tree snake living in our mailbox - the mailman just dumps the mail on the front lawn nowadays.

We water our plants using grey water from the kitchen and bathrooms and laundry. We use our rainwater tank to wash the car.

I lecture statistics at Australia's first (original) environmental science school, and am actively involved in environmental and socio-environmental research.

We buy our fruit and veg. from a local organic farmer's market every Sunday.

Professionally, I'm cautious about saying global warming is occurring, or that man is involved - in my professional view the data is not there, whether it be from core samples, fossilized tree rings, or any other "pseudo data" that's available. Doesn't mean it's not true, just means that I feel there's not enough quality evidence to make a definitive call one way or the other. I lecture that a statistician needs to remain as impartial as possible, critique the data and then let it speak for itself, and I believe that.

However, at a personal level I try to do whatever I can to minimize my impact on the planet.

    (I know - I'm a saint, and absolute saint!)

    James.

Dead writers are spoken of in the present tense if it's their work being discussed, past tense if it's their bios. Saul Bellow was an American novelist (born in Canada, I know), but Saul Bellow is the greatest American novelist of the second half of the twentieth century.

I don't know if Ms. Rand bit, chewed, or sucked when she was alive – I never had the opportunity to feed her cake and see – but Ayn Rand the novelist bites.

I can't afford your baked goods at the moment but I'd be curious to read your speech, assuming it's free.

    Dylandog,
Old saul"s been dead about two years now Saul(Soloman to those of us who knew him well) was considered a pretty average writer by most of us in his literary circle, man could he bore you,all he wanted to talk about was his Guggenheim fellowship. Now if any writer qualifies as bitting, sucking or chewing it will have to be old Saul(Solomon )Bellows Canadian by birth ,but Ruskie by nature.May he RIP .
Maybe we can work out some kind of discount structure on the baked goods,or do you have some razors to trade? Does the delivery and speech fee seem resonable? If so I will send a list of credentials and bonafides
Best regards, and looking forward to seeing you soon, Gary

"'Solomon' to those of us who knew him well" – classic.
