It's a short video of the procession of the fallen fire fighters that perished here in WA State.

Thanked: 13246We had the bad winds yesterday
Today however we have had some actual rain, feels good to not be quite so worried about any sparks from anything
Not the long hard soaking rains we will need to kill the fires, but at least the Firefighters can get a foothold on them..
Some Happy Firefighters !!!!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Today it was pretty smoky on the horizon. Still amazes me that smoke from fires so far away would be reaching here.
I hope they get some relief there on the West Coast by some steady rainfall. Is it over there or over yonder?

Well while nowhere near 'contained' the fire that prompted my thread is at least slowed down by the favorable weather that we've been blessed with along with the hard work of the many firefighters.
Yet another link to the local paper article about the fire:

Thanked: 13246Well after some time and calculations we finally have a pump system all ready to go
Figured out we have 250 gallons in the Cistern at a minimum and can have 880 gallons in less then 1 hour of lead time, so we can soak down the area around the house pretty darn good
Probably never need it, or use it for a fire, but we have the ability to move some water
Waiting for the Insurance company to let me know what kind of a discount I get now hehehehe
The weather has really helped the firefighters get some real containment on the fires

Thanked: 995What are the specs on your pump?
You have to be fairly creative when it comes to fire suppression in the woods. Strangely one of the best investments was a 200 USD swimming pool from Wally World. It's a rubber walled type. Great with the hot weather too. When the fire fighters rolled through inspecting and setting up to run the cat's through and build fire lines, that pool of ready water got a lot of thumb's up. It probably wouldn't last 30 minutes at the max capacity of a firefighter's pump but it'd be a lot of water they couldn't pull from the well fast enough.
This website is the one that set me off on building a fire suppression system for the remote home (reservation lands) that I moved to a few years ago. Roof Top Sprinkler Systems

Thanked: 13246151/gpm at 50 psi
I saw that Sprinkler System and thought about that but it is the trees around the house that worry us the most.. we want to be able to soak the area more then trying to attack a fire... That is for the professionals
Next year I might add a 300 Gal tank for the back of the truck so we could get out to any end of the property to put out a small brush fire before it gets to be anything larger..
This will reach out/up to 80 feet, we have the trees that are near the house trimmed up to 20' above the ground and most all of the ground cover cleared away from the trees..
The risk is pretty low here in all actuality, but this can serve two purposes and the outlay of money was pretty low so we went for it.
