Apart from air-cooled Volkswagens, LP collecting, pipe-smoking, and tube amps, I'm pretty normal.

    Well, for a software engineer.

    No Idea, my friend

As far as lapping, we generally use carborundum powder with a levigator. We use 80, 100, 180 and then 220 grit powder. Doing it by hand on a small stone with fine grit may be tricky, especially if it's French stone as opposed to softer Bavarian stone.

    A morris dancer eh?

I really feel the need to say something now though I have no clue what. I was thinking something along the lines of 'You poor man' but obviously you chose this path for yourself.

It's one of the best excuses for getting out of the house and going to a nice country pub and frightening the locals! Good for keeping fit too, though the beer probably negates the benefit of the exercise.

Funnily enough, tourists love it but locals aren't too keen as we interfere with their drinking.

I think everyone should dress up in weird clothes once a week.

I do schutzhund. Its my most demanding hobby and probably the least mainstream. Moreover I am an "agitator" or "Decoy" as well This is the "extreme" end of dog training.

Wow Wiltim! I'd say that qualifies as an unusual hobby!

I had my dog trained by a group who specialises in police and military dogs. One of their trainers told me that to get a dog to attack a man, you have to give them constant praise and build their confidence. Is this true? (The reason I ask is that this same guy told me to get whatever my dog was chewing, put it in her mouth, and tape her muzzle closed with tape....I just waited for her to grow out of it...)

It is true that you need a confident dog to take on a man. Constant praise won't help though. You want them to feel confident fighting something that is twice their weight and three times their height (their perspective). They gain confidence from a series of successes against their opponent each gradually more challenging until they feel that they can take whatever a man can dish out. This is a slow progression over a period of at least months and during that time you will give a lot of praise but it isn't the key component.

Based on their other suggestion I would question their methods beyond that? If you can't say something nice....
