How many AR magazines, How many rounds in your stash ?
A buddy of mine has a dozen AR mags, plus a couple of thousand rounds of green tips in case the omelet hits the fan. A scenario I'd have considered ridiculous a few short years ago, but nowadays nothing would surprise me.
With semi auto pistols I normally like to have 2 mags for a firearm to rotate at the range. I just got an AR and have 900 roiunds coming from Midway.
Forgot to order mags. So I have 2.
Should I go for another 5 or for 10 ? Magpulls ? With or without window ? Inquiring minds want to know.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13249Enough so that you would make the news as a certified Gun Nut should they ever raid your home
Let's put it this way, when the news says they found a "Stockpile of Guns and Ammo" including 5000 rounds of .223 and 1000 rounds of 9mm or .45
I think "Huh a day at the range"

First Jimmy, its "omelet hits the Pan".
Windows in mags are so you know how many rounds you had left, as you lie dying from watching your ammo deplete.
As to how many mags for the AR,,,,,? How many can you carry & still be mobile & effective,,, how will you carry them,,, Magpul of course,,,,IMO 5 is plenty if rigged propperly,,,,,,,

Thanked: 3795I've got about 1200 .495 round balls.
Given how long it takes to reload my muzzleloader for each shot, I think that's probably enough.

Cant stress enough , those are older mags. get the gen 4, you won't be sorry. As far as how many, get a good rig with Molle and you can get a triple double, that is 6. mag pul also has a great mag connecter for about 10 bucks that gives you 8. Then we can have some fun!!
PS you can never have enough ammo or mags, but one addiction at a time.Last edited by VAPDGUY; 06-24-2016 at 07:59 PM.

My primary concern is how long does it take to load a magazine?
I have 20 or 30 magazines, most GI issue, for 5.56/223 and a few thousand rounds.
For stored mags I never fully load them. Example a 20 round mag I only put 17 rounds in it. After 20+ years with annual inspection I have not seen one mag lose any tension.
If forced to defend myself I will start out with a couple 100 round mags. Biggest and most wins. Har! Why take a 20/30 round mag into a 100 mag fight.
Vertical stack is easier to maintain line of sight than ever changing drum mag. I don't believe in spray and pray. Every round counts. Thank you USMC. SF
