John Candy went to high school in my neighbourhood - he went to Neil McNeil, and I went to the rival Malvern Collegiate.
He was the Treasurer at the school...here's his pic from the Neil McNeil Yearbook:

Do you Canadians go to a 4 year high school or are your schools like 1st through 12th grade?
Is your colleges part of the same system?

Back when I was in High School, it was 5 years to Grade 13 if you wanted your Ontario Secondary School Honours Diploma if you planned to go to University, or 4 years for your Ontario Secondary School Diploma if you wanted to go to work after school or go to College.
College and University are separate school systems. With College being more trade oriented and University more academics and professions.
Kindergarten, Grades 1-6, then 7-8 middle school, then separate High School from 9-12/13.Last edited by Phrank; 08-26-2016 at 02:43 AM.

Thanked: 3795That photo brings back memories.
My second grade teacher, Miss Olson, was a nasty evil aberration of a teacher. I really liked all of my other elementary school teachers but this one got off on cruelty. If you did anything she did not like, and if you were a boy, she would have you walk up to the blackboard and touch your nose to it. She would then draw a circle on the board a couple inches higher than the mark made by your nose. You then had to stand on your toes and press your nose inside the circle. If your calves gave way and your nose left the circle she would attempt to break whatever piece of wood she had available that day. Honestly, the punishment did not bother me anywhere near as much as the complete arbitrary nature of whatever she randomly decided to punish us for on any particular day.

Thanked: 4207Great gams by the end of grade school though I bet!
For me it was gum, Mrs McKauskry catch you eating gum, it went on the black board and you held it there with your nose for the rest of class."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

In Kindergarten there were several kids who vomited or peed their pants because the teacher wouldn't let them go to the restroom.
